MXT and bad soil or Iron Questions

I recently started hunting some private yards in my town. I use a Minelab Soverign. The Sov Nulls out most of the time due to bad soil or iron.I know I'm missing targets because of this.
My questions is.... Will an MXT see thru this type of soil and out hunt the Sov?
I had an MXT last year but never used it in this type of conditions. I see this alot in this town ... but don't know the cause.
Thank you
Reaney in NH

Hi Reaney
I use an MXT and have used it in Arizona in some of the worst soils you can imagine. Ground readings can go from 30's to high 70's with in 15 feet, and alot of iron.
The MXT does pretty good if you use a smaller coil and lock the ground balance, in really bad ground I sometimes have to cut back on gain to 6 or 7. It gets to a point to where I know that I am lossing depth to acheive stability.
There is one place I keep going back to, its an old home stead and coral. The ground is highly minerialized and it is infested with iron of every size. Every time I go there I swear that I will never go back, but like a moth to a light buld I return and get burned.
To answer your question the MXT is a great machine, but you might want to think about a PI detector. I have friends that have the ML sov's and in some areas we both come up empty. HH

I have both the MXT the wife uses and the Sovereign and Explorer. Now when I first got the MXT I used it a bit to learn it and see what it could do. We have this one site that is very trashy with a lot of nails and other iron in the ground. I use the MXT with the Mini shooter coil while one of my buddies used his Sovereign with the 8 inch coinsearch coil and the other a Explorer with the stock coil. The Explorer coil was just too big, but he did find a few things, the Sovereign did OK too, but he had to go very slow. Me with the MXT with the little mini shooter did well and got twice what they could put together. This coil will get between the trash and pick out a good target and it has some impressive depth too. It is too bad you dont have a MXT right now as I think it would be worth a try and I feel the MXT with the mini shooter coil would work out for you.
