MXT and a casual, fun afternoon............

Chores were done and I decided to visit the site where a school once stood, but now converted to a commercial business. Perfect weather with the temperature in the lower 60's, a thermos of coffee and I was ready to go. I drove the pickup truck around to the back of the building, did a quick survey and decided to hunt around an old Live Oak tree at the back of the property. As I swung the Eclipse 5.3 coil under that old tree, I day dreamed about what it must have been like for those children playing under this old tree...what were their dreams, where might they be now in life. Time flew by like it always does when you are having a great time. It was a good day, found some silver, old war nickel, one of those steel pennies, and my favorite was an old 1965 token. A great hunt and some nice finds too Kelley..........

Very nice finds Kelly, and I love the story behind the old oak tree. I also love detecting around big old trees and wonder about the kids playing around it and also the gentlemen leaning against it for a quick rest in it's day. The 43 steel cent is in great shape. Here in Illinois they are eaten by the chemicals in the soil. Thanks for the inspiration and knowing that someone can be out detecting. Earlier we had -7 degrees out and the windchill had to be in the minus teens. Brrrrrrr cold. HH and thanks for sharing, Nancy

Very nice finds Kelly those old oak trees can sure produce some old targets. Congrats on a great hunt .

Nice work Kelley...still waiting for a steel cent. Do you remember the VDI? And I see an SLQ there - AWESOME! Is the date readable?

Thanks for sharing.

It was just a strange signal, solid one minute and a broken signal the next pass over the coin. It was only about four inches deep. I was using the coin mode and had the discrimination set at three, just at where the MXT will start discriminating out nails...it could be that the MXT was being fooled into thinking that the steel penny was a nail. Also, the quarter was heavily worn and you can not read the date. I probably hunt differently from lots folks in that I dig solid signals without reading the meter, but if the signal is questionable, then I will go to the meter. The MXT is a solid workhorse and I really enjoy using it. Kelley (Texas) :)

Nice finds,, what is the chain made of silver or SS ???
Nice fuse, is it still good ???
I like your token, but I like the SLQ to.
Your were lucky to have a break in the weather.
HH..BJ

Yes, the fuse is still good. You folks have taken a real beating with that 14" of snow...hear tell that there may be even more later in the week. Kelley (Texas) :)

That's a nice way to start the year.
Yes the 14" snow and the cold and even colder headed our way.
Some day it will warm up, then I will be out digging...
The house I grew up in used those type of fuse's...
I have dug the brass part, but never one that was good.
HH..BJ

is probably stainless. Sorry for the mistake. Kelley (Texas) :)
