MXT all pro air test

WV62

Well-known member
I don't own a MXT all pro yet but I am thinking.

Just wondering if anybody out there has air tested one using one of the stock coils on a dime or quarter and would care to share the results.

Are you referring to using the 10" D2 coil? I have the same detector but with the 12" spider coil--- my VDI numbers were spot on all the time. If you need to know what the White's VDI system is- you will have to google to find those as I do not have those in my hard drive-(which I probably should)..

hanniba31,
Yes I was referring to the stock 10" D2 or the 950 coil, and all I am looking for is the distance (depth) from the coil it will read a US dime or quarter. I am thinking about maybe buying the MXT all pro and I was just looking for a distance number to compare to machines I am running now. The distance off your 12" spider I would expect it to be a little more than stock but I will take what I can get.

Right now I am just window shopping.

Thanks for the reply,

Distance in the ground depends largely on your ground mild, normal or hard (such as mine.) Size of your coil. A smaller coil could be deeper depending on your soil. Understanding the received signals is very important discriminate, non-discriminate and all metal. The output signal is fixed so the signal received is the only in machine processing that can be adjusted. Once understood it is really easy to adjust for a given circumstance if you understand it. The MXT is a great turn on and go machine. A variety of coils is a huge help. depending on your searching environment. If gold country carry the 6x10 DD or sef 8x6 maybe the 4x6DD. Open country 10" DD, stock coil or 12" or bigger. The stock coil for most stuff will work.

Yea, the soil makes a big difference from area to area, and I'm sure that a measurement it inches from the coil with a repeatable response doesn't measure out the same in the ground. But, I'm thinking that every bodies air is the same. So, for long distance comparisons then air is the most neutral media available.
But, giving air test on targets that normally don't halo much in the ground like a silver dime or a silver quarter will in most CASES give the maximum distance or depth for the detector, outside of halo there isn't anything about dirt that makes a detector have greater depth.

So, seeing how I also have interest in a MXT Pro (most likely) I would be interested in some air test in inches for the 950 coil on targets like the Silver Dime or a silver quarter. What I would be looking for is the distance that the target stops giving a repeatable signal, or one that you would most likely pass up if you were actually hunting.

Thanks

While I do use "air test" comparisons to see what a detector might do in absolute ideal conditions without any ground mineral influence, it is still best to do some side-by-side comparisons with a model you own to see just how well or how poorly a competitive model might work.

The MXT Pro came with a 12" Concentric coil or 950 Concentric coil, and the MXT All-Pro, with the only difference being an 'All' on the side decal, comes with either the 10" D2 Double-D coil instead of the 12" coil, or the 950 coil.

I keep my own 12" coil on a lower rod in my back-pack detector bag (which I use just for spare coils and extra batteries) for times when I might have a need for it. Otherwise, I mainly use the 6½" Concentric coil (the 5.3 Eclipse) or new 9" Concentric spider coil for most hunting, going with the 9", like I used to use the 950, for more open, lower target sites with less masking and where I might get an extra inch or so in depth.

Anyway, a guy I know close to me has a very gently used MXT All-Pro (maybe a total of 2 to 2½ hours is all) and he is in a $$$$ bind. It was sell his extra runaround car or his detector to pay off a bill ... now! ... or be in trouble. This MXT All-Pro is like new, honestly, and has the 950 coil.

He paid the suggested retail ($849.95) for it, but had to get cash quickly. I tapped into my camp trailer buying cash and got it for $650. If you would like to know how an MXT All-Pro will compare to your F5 or other detectors, and if you send me $25 for shipping, I'll loan you the MXT All-Pro for a week or two and you can give it some honest side-by-side work-out in YOUR ground against YOUR detectors (and your brothers).

Just promise to pamper it as I need to sell it when you send it back. I am doing a day-long seminar on Saturday, November 8th in Portland, Oregon and I am sure I will sell it then, so you can use it and be gentle and then ship it back to me so I have it by the 7th of November. I checked it out and it works perfectly. He used a 6½" coil that he kept (he'll get another detector before year's end) so it has a never-used standard 950 search coil.

Just call me at (503) 481-8147 or e-mail me at monte@stinkwaterwells.com if you would like to check an MXT All-Pro out for yourself and use it (gently) afield, and I will get it sent off to you today (Friday), if I hear in time before the Post Office closes. A FREE opportunity to try something in YOUR hunting areas for a couple of weeks. What could be better and more educational? Nothing, and you'll learn why the MXT All-Pro is my #1 all purpose detector.

Monte

PS: My intent was to buy this as-new MXT All-Pro to have on-hand as a back-up to my own MXT All-Pro and that way I'd just keep a different coil on each one. However, it will also be an 'extra' in my personal detector arsenal which I am thinning out. That's why I said I'd probably sell it in November as I am selling my extra Classic ID and mint condition IDX Pro. Thin my personal arsenal and get the cash back plus a little to help buy my trailer. That will let me travel to more old sites and spend an extra day or two hunting them.

WoW! "Monte" that's really a generous offer for sure and really tempting, but being out of work for now and spending the two way freight charges and being responsible for someone else's detector I think I will decline. Now if we lived closer together and we could meet up for a couple hunts and I could use the MXT then that would be perfect.

Thank You Very Much.

Mark

Here is a VDI air test for the MXT pro using the various White's coils. These are not my tests- this is a test posted from another site.
