MXT 6x10DD Coil?

Hey guys,

Covered in snow here in Oklahoma. I'm getting things together for my MXT for the upcoming year. Right now I have the stock 950 coil. I do mostly homestead hunting and an occasional ghost town. I'm looking for one additional coil to add for the MXT and from what I see, most folks really like the 6x10DD. Would you guys recommend this coil for my particular style of hunting? I also do some open farmland areas where an old town was located in the 1800's. I'm really leaning toward the 6x10 DD, but wanted your opinions on pro's and cons, recommendations, etc... Thanks

You have the 9.50 for open fields.
But for your type of hunting, I think the 5.3 coil would be better.
The 6 x 10 is a good coil and so is the 4x6 DD, but for trash,
I want the 5.3 on my MXT and it will be used 90% of the time
for my type of hunting...

Snow and cold here in Central Okla.
And some colder weather headed our way.
Come on spring.

I have the 6x10 & the 4x6 Dd coils, I like the 6x10 for larger areas & it is OK in some trash. But if your ghost towns are like the ones out here with a million cans, the smaller coil is a must. I have never used the 5.3 but I think id would be as good as the 4x6 in trash.

5.3 IMHO. Excellent coin! HH, Nancy

I guess I was thinking the 6x10 would be good for wedging up in tight areas, etc... Plus the advantage of covering more ground. Which one would be more versatile? Seems most are leaning toward the 5.3?!?!?!?!

I have all the coils mentioned and the 6X10 is my most used coil. However, for tight areas and/or heavy trash the 4X6 is unbelievable. Downside is limited coverage and depth. The 5.3 has pretty good coverage and very good depth for its size, but the round shape doesn't slip into the tight spots as well as the elliptical shape. I end up using them all from time to time, depending on the conditions where I'm detecting. Mounted on extra lower rods they are quick and easy to change. I do much better in moderate to semi-heavy trash with the 6X10 than I do with the 9.5 for whatever that's worth to you. If you can eventually add several to your arsenal it'll add a lot of versatility to your MXT. Hope this is helpful,
BB

My 6x10 dd coil is my favorite and the one I keep on it most of the time. It is the best for Nugget shooting out west and gives good separation in trashy areas or where there are many targets. Whatever coil you choose, you will be happy with the MXT for multi-purpose use.

If I could only have one coil, right now, it would be the 5.3 coil...

There is another coil that I have been watching, and it is the new
8" X 6" SEF coil from Kellyco.

The picture is of the 8x6 sef for the E Trac,
but they make one for the DFX,MXT,M-6.

Below is a copy & paste from their site.

Man, I'm really leaning towards that 6x10 for an "all around" coil. Looks like a good combo of versatility and depth. I know I should probably post this in the classifieds, but if anyone has a 6x10 DD they are looking to part with, e-mail me a so688@cox.net and see if we can work something out!!!

5.3 Eclipse.

Trust me, while the big elliptical coil might be 'OK' you'll get far better performance around old homesteads, in Rail-Road ghost towns, Logging and mining ghost towns, old resort and recreation sites, modern trashy parks, vacant lots, building tear-downs, sidewalk and street renovation, etc., etc., if you mount up a 6

Well, I've used both coils with good success often enough that I'm glad I have both. I won't dispute Monte's comments about the 5.3 (6.5") as I've come to like that one a lot myself, but not so much as to get rid of my 6X10.

Well, nothing wrong with having both eventually. Just a matter of deciding which one first.

Well, I'm about to buy a 5.3 or 6x10 from Larry. While snooping around today, I saw this DD coil from Kellyco. Any info or experience with this coil? Looks like a 6 inch, just curious how it would compare to the 5.3? Any thoughts?

6" DD EXcelerator Search Coil (Spectra V3/DFX/MXT/M6)
Cat# 134-6W

Retail Price $245.00

Sale Price $109.95

I have the EXcelerator 10" D2 from Kellyco and I think it is as good or a tad better than the 6X10 DD which I also have. I will give the nod to the 6x10 for nugget shooting because it is easier to maneuver around rocks and it don't get hung up like the open EXcel 10" D2. It pinpoints well and gives good VDI numbers and accurate confidence blocks. I have other EXcelerator coils for my other detectors and have always been very happy with them. I don't give numbers on depths because here in Colorado we have some very minalized soils and lots of hot and cold rocks. These all affect depth differently and the types of targets I hunt. All I can say it practice, practice, practice and test, test, test. Get to know your tector and the coils very well so you can gain confidence in you choices and hunt with confidence.
