MXT & 5" Excelerator field success. (Photo test)

On our vacation last month I took along three different makes of detectors for three different types of hunting. My <EM>primary-use</EM> unit was my MXT and, as always, the 5" Exclerator coil was up to the task.
I am trying to learn a new digital camera and convince my computer that it's supposed to be smart enough to get the pictures from camera to CD to forum post w/o my help. I guess we're both going to have to struggle thru this learning process. :
Okay, I tried some previews but can't seem to get more than one photo at a time. If you have some easy help, please E-mail me rather than add it to this thread.
Anyway, here are some photos, one at a time:
A winged dragon button found in an old RR ghost town. It is just slightly less diameter than a dime.

The small pendant piece was found about a foot or so away from a 1902 'V' nickel. Both were still a good 1

The ground phase reading in this dug up dirt was between 81 & 85. I was hunting in the Relic mode w/centered trigger so I could hear any metal, ferrous or non-ferrous. Disc. at the preset mark.

I've found many "ear tags" as this used to be a big sheep raising area and some of the old RR towns were major shipping points for sheep. This is the first I have found from this fellow and town.

I enjoy finding these as much as I do most coins and tokens as they help associate the activities of a paticular time and place.

The always ready-to-go 5" Excelerator (because I usually use the MXT in thick brush, dense trash, around building rubble, or a combination of these; the stock 950 for casual searches in less trashy sites; and the 14" Excelerator for the open areas where I need very good coverage. Always mounted and ready-to-go this is a tough set-up to beat with an MXT!

Monte, I use my MXT alot with the Whites 5.3 Eclipse. Not because of tight areas but due to good separation. Does the 5 inch Excelerator have an advantage over the Eclipse? I have been making regular good silver finds at some good depths running it in the plus on the gain when I can. I would appreciate any advice, thanks.

that it is the #1 factory-produced coil from White's for the MXT! If there wasn't a 5" Excelerator coil, I would have the 5.3 Eclipse mounted full-time instead. With my first two MXT's I used the 5.3 Eclipse all the time after using all the other factory coils for the MXT. Excellent depth and great separation for most applications.
Before I parted with my second MXT I got the 5" & 14" Excelerator coils to evaluate and see if they did anything for me and the applications I had for them. They both did. The 14" Double-D is great for coverage in wide-open spaces. But I spend most of my time hunting in super trashy and often very brushy environments, so the smaller-than-stock coils are the ones I prefer.
When I got my 3rd (and final) MXT, I knew I had to have the 5" Excelerator coil in my personal arsenal so I ordered it from Kellyco along with my MXT and other coils. Why do I prefer it? Well, because:
► I have had a lot of very good sucess with slow-sweep, two-filter detectors (mainly some Classic models) in my favorite ghost towns using a 4" coil. The 5" Excelerator is just barely smaller in diameter than 5", so it <EM>'feels'</EM> "right at home."
► The 5.3 Eclipse is more like 6

Very good info, I too have dug some deep dimes with this coil and have really been surprised at the depth. I had thought that small coils would not reach as deep as mine has <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D">

Glad to hear some positive field reports on the E coils. Thanks for posting your opinions and pics of the results. HH

Hi, Monte, you posted some nice finds. I'm interested in trying the 5" Excelerator. I have graduated to the smaller 6 x 9 coil, but still get multiple readings in our mineralized ground. I hunted a new site today -- a County camp site with buildings, cement, pipes, etc. I only found 8 cents, including a corroded 1947 nickel. (I figure anything younger than me isn't really old enough to count <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> Thanks for the info on the 5" coil. It makes sense for me to give it a try.

I was out a couple of weeks ago hunting with a friend who was using his DFX (which he is quite comfortable with) and he had the 5.3 Eclipse coil mounted. After a couple of side-by-side signal comparisons on some detected targets, he wasn't sure if it was the MXT that's hotter than his DFX (I know I prefer the MXT <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)"> ) or the performance of the 5" Excelerator coil. Now he's trying to decide if he wants (needs?) to get another detector and/or coil, or if there is a whole lot more learning and playing and programming he needs to fool with! <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
I prefer knobbed detectors and for the different applications I hunt, it is tough to beat the MXT/ XL Pro/ Classic ID trio.
