MXT 5.3 Eclipse killer combo

B.T

New member
Here's a couple of nice little species I found last week with the MXT and the 5.3 coil.
The place only has small gold but its usually in species and looks great. The one with the green bits of quartz in the open hand shot is one of my favourites. About 1 g in it but gives a very weak signal as if it was .1 of a gram or less. The other is from an adjacent reef line where the quartz is filthy with minerals as opposed to the other which is predominantly clean apart from the odd mineralisation zones. They are both on the same hill only meters apart.
Great specie detector the MXT. Was running the gain almost flat out in the + zone, +2, and the V SAT on the preset.

I bet there is allot more gold in side that piece of quartz the gold looks like its embedded I have a bad habit of crushing my quarts to get every speck out of it, great find

We have just the place for the one on the left it in our display case B. T.......front and center. Don't you dare crush that one, it's a beauty. Congratulations....:super:

What part of the world are you from?

WOW! Those are beautiful specimens. I love the one on the left. Both are beauties! I would love to try to find some rocks like that! Thanks so much for sharing. What a joy! HH to all, Nancy

Thanks, its a great spot and the gold is always a lucky dip in how good and different its going to look. Crystal gold, gold with pyrites....
Ill get a picture of another bit I found but gave to a good friend to cheer him up, he,s not well. Its the same sort of gold from the same reef line but the quartz has pyrites cubes in it. Going to have another shot there next week and have a dig where they came from, might get a better bit.
Have a good one everyone, if not, have fun trying.

Hi Nancy,

Just moved from Bloomington, IL in mid May to Columbia, SC. There are gold deposits in the east (to my surprise!). I currently own a DFX 300. Will do some nugget shooting north and west of Columbia with my 5" DD coil and see what happens. Air tests have indicated the DFX will detect gold, but I am skeptical. However, it certainly beats the pants off the competition in other areas.

How often do you get out west to prospect?

Mike

Each coil has its plus and negative. No coil is better than the other in all situations. If you read between the lines you will see my posts on the 5.3 continually are accompanied by pics of specimen type gold. It is in that environment it shines. Areas like this are generally quieter and you can get away with running gain levels that otherwise would be not approachable. The DD elliptical is the go for working the hillsides and slopes or gully's where there are many varying mineral types or noisy patches of ground. If your in an area where you need to be turning the gain down on the 5.3 below say 80% or more then this is where you should change coils to a DD.
Quiet ground like quartz reef/lode areas or pipe clay etc where you can run the gain flat stick then try the 5.3. Noisy places like washouts, gully's and highly mineralised areas then this is DD country.
Just like you choose the right fishing lure for the right target species and environment you do likewise for gold with your coil choice.
No use slapping a large DD on for a quiet area where there is only small gold, no use using a super sensitive concentric where the minerals are insane and the gold deep.
Horses for courses, simple.
