MXT 300

Hello have a few questions I need help with. Went out after the rain yesterday with a friend we hunted for about three hours he was finding double the coins I was with a garret machine. I used my MXT 300 with DD coil and was getting a lot of nickel ring displays and a lot of junk would dig the nickel ring and it was also junk. I set the dis to reject p to a nickel and still lots of pull tabs etc. I have only used this machine three time am I doing something wrong or is this DD coil that sensitive?

Thanks Butch

Lots of the pulltabs and chewed up pop cans will ring in at the nickel range.:detecting:
Unfortunately the jewelry will also ring up in that area.:sadwalk:
Unless you are very confident in the VDI number as to what it means its a dig it all scenario.

After you get alot of experience with your MXT you will learn to depend on the sound and the VDI number more than the name ID cause the name ID is only a written estimate of what the computer thinks it is and isn't always that good cause of all the trash items that come into the same range and the computer can only give you two guesses .It just takes practice and learning what all the target indicators on the machine are telling you and then you will be able to combine them together and make your decision to dig the target or not ..

Well thanks for the replays I was getting a little disgusted between the MXT 300 and the dual field pro pi lots of junk digging

Hi Butch,

To give good advice we need more information about your hunt. It sounded like your search site had lots of trash targets. Could the site be described as a high trash area? Which DD coil were you using? White

my coil is a 6 x 10 and gain was set at ^ now I am wondering why the VDI icons take so long to change is this something that this machine does ?
My friend was using a stock coil on his machine he has a garret GTI 2500

Butch,
I've had my MXT for 7 mo & I use the 6x10 mostly in C&J gain around 9 and disc. 2. I dig alot of junk. 10 times as my partner.
I've started to try the Relic mode with the same settings and trigger forward. I'll inch the disc up a little sometimes to quite it down a bit.
I think I may like this mode better.
My hunting partner has had his Garret GTI 2500 for about 6 years.
I consistently out hunt him. It's all in the patience and practice and alot of junk.
It will come to you. Whites makes a great machine in the MXT.
If you can get a copy of Fosters book "The MXT Edge" it helps answer a lot of questions.
Keep hunting, practice, practice, practice.

I've learned and am still learning sounds from my MXT had have had it 5 years. I pretty much can tell now when it's a pulltab but I still dig many especially if I'm in an area where there's possible old coins. The MXT is a hybrid with analog sound and digital target I.D. and I'm old school when it comes to the analog sound.

If you're not already, go with the relic mode with the trigger forward. You'll get the sounds a whole lot sooner and easier. I used the coin and jewelry mode for about a year and when I switched to relic, I've never gone back.

 to all your answers. I never use C & J anymore myself, and found out I dig less junk and more of what counts, tho mostly clad. I've paid off my MXT - E, mostly using the relic mode. You auto see my matchbox car collection:bouncy: HH All KC

Floridason :usaa: retired
MXT,DX-1, +4 coils

PS: And YES my most used coil is the 6 X 10 DD coil, down here for me, it's the BEST. (IMHO)

Trigger forward or in the middle? I experimented with each position again today. You will get a louder harmanic sound with the trigger switch in the middle and will be able to hear both sounds, lower and higher pitched sounds. Also, you are just eliminating the low iron sound with the switch forward. You will not hear the low sound above where you have the discrimination setting with the switch forward. I preferred the switch in the middle.
