I had one hour to hunt a new park that used to have a century old house that was torn down by the city. The same park where I found my 1917 silver 5 cent coin. This place is full of iron (most probably nails). It was difficult to get a solid and repeatable lock on but I managed to get a few good finds. The crotal bell is my first and it is in good condition with the iron hook still there. Unfortunately the ball is missing so I couldn't hear what it once sounded like. I also found an old lead fishing weight and 2 old pen knives (one split in half while I was digging it out and the iron blades on both are decomposing with rust). No coins this time. It's funny to get old finds such as this near a very modern condo housing project and half a mile from a cell phone communication tower. It makes me wonder what this place looked like a hundred years ago.
I'm slowly getting a hang of the MX7. It chatters a little more than I care for but there are some characteristics that I'm getting to appreciate the more I use it. The pin pointing on this thing is surgically precise. The target is always straight in the middle of the doughnut hole no matter how deep it is. Weight balance is better than any detector I have used including my F19 which is lighter but not as well balanced IMHO (zero pain in my wrists or elbows). Despite the fact that it has 8 AA cells in the battery compartment, it essentially feels weightless. I was using the stock 950 concentric while I wait for the ordered six shooter. I set rejection volume at 10, coin and jewelry, sensitivity at 6. I started with discrimination set at zero and then pushed it at 10 to calm the detector down somewhat. I sometimes use the high trash setting when noises get too much to handle and/or will diminish sensitivity.
