Hi. I just bought an MX7 and the battery pack will not lock inside the detector compartment. It will slide inside fairly easy but even if I push it completely inside, the 2 buttons on each side do nothing to eject the pack (not engaged).
Mike, The battery tray does slide in easily, but use the heel of your hand and firmly '
bump' the battery tray to seat it completely.
I hope you enjoy the MX-7, and learn the different Tone ID options, especially if working in an area plagued by nails and other ferrous trash. Of course up there in Canada that can include a lot of your nickel or steel coins.
In a really trash-free area when Coin Hunting down here in the USA, places such as a grassy park or school lawn, I might sometimes use the 8-Tone option. Most of the time I prefer to hunt with the MX-7 using the 4-Tone function.
But when working in dense iron debris areas such as ghost towns, homesteads, and similar challenges, I set my RejVol at '10', accept the upper factory preset rejected segment, and use 2-Tone to get the best sharp audio response. With a lot of nails and other ferrous trash close to and/or under the coil, 4-Tone can have a less-than-pleasant low to low-mid audio tone due to very closely associated good coins and bad iron junk. The 2-Tone function helps the better targets stand out.
Oh, one more thing. I have preferred to run most of my detectors at or very near the highest Sensitivity setting for a long time, but due to the hot performance of some makes and models, and that includes both the White's MX-5 and MX-7, especially, don't hesitate to lower the Sensitivity to the '00' to '04' level to reduce interference from densely contaminated sites. Usually I keep my MX-7's Sensitivity set at '08' for start up and most hunting, but working in a heavily nail infested site I really get the benefit in performance by reducing the Sensitivity ... a lot.
And be sure to keep the search coil ±2" off the ground to reduce or eliminate overloading. My Nokta CoRe models, my Nokta Relic, and my White's XLT, modified Classic ID and MX-5 are going nowhere as they are all excellent performers and have their strengths, and I can assure you, my MX-7 isn't parting company anytime soon, either. It's my most-used White's model.
