MX5 with SEF 10x12

Well folks I'm back, been out of the hobby for a couple of years, I get bored and sell everything then I get the bug again and start over.
I just ordered the mx5 and would like some feedback on the SEF 10x12 good bad whatever. I had that coil mounted on my sovereign GT and that was the deepest coil I ever ran.
On a side note I tried the whites 10DD on my M6, I was able to separate targets better but in my CO soil the stock 950 ran deeper. How's the sef on the beach?
Thanks folks!

I can't for sure tell you how the 10X12 SEF will work on your MX5 but I can tell you that on my MXT it works great. It is the deepest coil that I have so I use it often when I am in open areas. It really separates pretty well for a bigger coil. I have tested it on my M6 also and it works great there also. I have access to a coin garden where there is a 6" IH, 10" silver dime, and 12" silver quarter that were buried about 3 years ago. The MXT had no problem hitting all three and the M6 gave good audio on the Quarter but was a little jumpy on the ID. I have really good dirt here and the coins are buried in an area that is clean and no EMI. I think you would like the 10X12 and it's not as heavy to swing as the D2. I also have the 6X8 SEF and those two coils stay on my detectors 99% of the time.

I don't know about the balance on the MX-5 with the larger coil, but it is one sweet machine with the stock 9" spider coil. I

I just started running the SEF WSS 10x5 coil on my MX5. First trip to the beach at the Isle of Palms in Charleston was this last week. The SEF WSS ran very stable, found the usual clad. Hit a quarter in wet sand at least 8 inches down. Found a silver initial charm about the size of a nickel 6 plus inches. The coil does not chatter when I go from water to wet sand. Both finds I was running beach mode, notched 5 and below out, sensitivity at 8, threshold about 8 or 9, and volume 85. Turned the sensitivity up to max and the MX5 with the SEF WSS Coil still ran stable with little to no increase in chatter. You still get a chip when coil hits the sand but it recovers very fast, just slow your swing down.
Second hunt was at an old school site that goes back to the early 1900s running the same settings but in coin mode. I hit a 1946 Rosey at 6 to 7 inches with a solid sound, vdi 77. Within a couple of feet hit a solid 67 vdi that turned out 1951 d wheat. Pin point is dead center on this coil. Not sure if the information I was given is correct or not but dealer said the 10x12 SEF is not compatible with the MX5 which I found odd because it is for the MXT. I went with the SEF WSS 10x5 because I only hunt the beach part of the time and my thinking is this will be a great coil for parks and olds sites as well. The stock coil is good but I really like the long knife blade search pattern of this DD coil much better. Considered the 13" Ultimate very seriously for the beach but I thought it may be a problem in some tight areas with a lot of trash. Don't have 2 coils in the budget at this time so took my best shot with the SEF WSS 10x5. I hope this information helps you.

Thanks for the feedback all, BTW what's the WSS stand for and is that coil a DD? Sounds good from your report.
Cheers

Here is the description from the dealers website.
This SEF WSS is a new series of the famed EXcelerator SEF line of search coils. This wide scan-SEF WSS coil is an extreme design that will offer extremely good sensitivity to very small targets, which makes it useful for all types of coin shooting, as well as for beach combing and nugget hunting. The WSS designed coil will give you very precise ground balance and discrimination so it will operate perfectly on even the most contaminated soils. You will get incredible exact pinpointing, extremely stable operation too.

It is a DD coil. It hits great on small jewelry also.

Thanks for all the info. My 6x10 whites DD should be here today. Later I will probably get a larger sef coil.

I have the 6x10 mounted on my MX5 full time. Has good depth and separation and doesn't get hung up while hunting in the woods the way open coils do.
