MX5 vs M6

I am curious (now that the snow is gone) if any of the new MX5 users have had a chance to try out their new machines???.. Well what do you like about it??? Is it deeper than the M6? Reason I ask is, when I first read about the MX5, I thought it would be the perfect machine for me. I liked the features. But there was some early problems with some of the machines. I went instead with the M6, mainly because of the loyal following, and no any bad forum comments. So I have this nagging feeling that I may have made the wrong choice. So has any one used both and like to comment? Thanks

Well...my m6 now sits in the truck. Love the notch options, threshold, don't hunt in low light so I don't use the backlight. Same speed as the m6 and a lot more bang for the buck if you can get past the plastic and lack of trigger switch. Luckily I was able to keep my m6 and get the mx5, I like the mx5 more but couldn't shake my m6

I too was fortunate enough to keep the M6 and purchase a MX5. I cant say I like one over the other. The MX5 is great and fun to use and I like some of its features but the M6 is still an awesome detector because it has confidence bars and has the graphic display along with the VDI numbers and the M6 has knob contolled sensitivity and discrimination controls which can be fined tuned on the fly where the MX5 you have to go through menus to notch. Like I said they are both very good and they each have their strengths. It really comes down to simplicity. The M6 is a little more simple but just as powerful. But the MX5 is cool and fun to use also. I know this doesnt help but I tried. Just comes down to preference of knobs over menus. The MX5 is weatherprood and is the reason I bought it. I wanted a detector to hunt with when the weather was iffy.

Thanks coinjumper and dirtmaster, does anyone see much difference in depth between the two? (using stock 950 or 9" coils). Also (for those who only have only the mx5) How deep are you seeing coins in the ground? And what coil are you using the most? I ask because I see some praising the 6 x8 sef coil...

Depth is seldom detector specific, it all depends on the ground and to an extent, user skill. One person may be happy with 6 inches while another may get 12 in their grounds. The 6X8 is a nice coil but not best known for it's depth capabilities, but for it's separation in trash due to the design. (DD)

Larger coils might be a better choice for depth gain like the Kellyco 10X12, 13" Ultimate or the White's 12", but again mineralization and the amount of trash in your ground become factors on coil choices.

Your M6 is a fine detector and I don't think getting a MX5 would improve your depth any......
