mx5 tones change video

this video is to show tones change only during pinpoint.. several mx5 detectors are doing this..

How do you get it to act normally again? Do you have to shut it off and restart?

It almost seems that it gets stuck in pinpoint mode. The video might be more effective if you keep the camera trained on the panel so we can see when you stop pinpointing. You can't really tell from the audio.

im sorry... I know I suck at videos once it starts changing tones like that then yes shut it off and back on again.. when it starts changing tones and you switch back to search mode the tones are extremely hi...there are times you don't have to use pinpoint mode for the tones to change,in 2 tone mode you will be going along and have your standard 2 tones run the coil over a target and all the sudden you have 2 totally different tones...again shut it off and back on fixes it.

Hi Bill, mine does it while sweeping ground for targets. In other words the tones ( I use the 8 tones) will sound the same on all targets but at a higher pitch. A nickel will sound like a quarter but the pitch will be a lot higher than normal. I than turn off the detector and will work normal for a bit , than it will start doing it again. When this happens , even the pinpoint pitch is affected. I have to power off the detector and than power it back on and it will work normal for a little bit. I thought it might be the coil but I've used the 5.3, 6x10 and stock and it does it with all. I don't believe that is normal. Your video shows the tones changing while pinpointing , does yours do it while sweeping coil for targets?

yes mine does just what you are saying..i tried to get video but it started snowing here so I only got the pinpoint part.. at times all targets sound very high pitch until I yurn off machine and back on.

another video...air test this time to show tone changes...it gets worse and so bad it has to be shut off and back on.

Maybe its a blessing in disguise. Non Motion All Metal Mode.LOL
Looks like time to call Whites.
Good luck!

I think mine is doing it too! Dagnabbit! I swore after I bought one of the early production ATPros (and had various issues with it) that I would never again buy a machine new to the market. I should've waited until all the bugs were worked out. Oh, well, I just hope White's is as honorable as Garrett has been. Although it sure is hard giving up my new toy while someone makes it what it should have been in the first place!

Glad Bill put these videos up for us. I have less than a week for my new mx5 to arrive, and as I have many of the Whites 14khz coils already and really like the idea of a "near" MXT in a Goldmaster GT housing I quickly purchased one.

I've been through the AT debacle as well ,and last year a European and a Tesoro calamity......

So I sit here this afternoon with my fingers crossed so hard they are bleeding.

Great video, mine has does it all the time, sweeping or in pin pont, I have talked to whites about it over and over, they say user error, good luck there not going to do a dam about it.
It also seems to me that target response speeds up to max.

Pitcher

I may end up in real trouble then Pitcher , as the Aus distributor didn't even know what an _MX5 was I had no choice but to buy directly from the States.

Well its obvious there is a glitch. I know for a fact whites will take care of it. Ive never had them not take good care of there customers. And ive used whites since 78 make a short video and send it to whites. Several machines are having this issue.

Thats a component issue. Sounds like one or more of the caps are bleeding when they heat up. Your VCO starts out normal but then as you continuously activate it they get hot and bleed, which in turn affects the audio.

My diagnosis is its not fatal but sucks. It will take Whites some time to fix it as they'll have to source new components and in the meantime you'll have to make lemonade out of your lemon.

Good luck,
HH
Mike

Oh ok. The machine still works really good.... The glitch doesnt bother me a whole lot. I posted video because there were several people having issues but was hard to explain

Went out this morning again with the MX5. Did the program reset as stated beneath the arm/ battery holder. The quick set up instructions. Was using the 10x6 coil at a trashy park. After doing the ground balance and all , I went to work. I detected for two hrs and had no issues. It worked great. Now I don't know if the reset had anything to do with it or whatever but the mx5 worked like it should. Had 8 tones , factory sensitivity, factory threshold, and notched all the way to zero. I was even beginning to tell the difference between a bottle cap and a quarter. Need to do more testing thou before any conclusions. Will keep you updated. By the way, I found about $1.50 in change and a lot of trash.

Im gonna try reset today. I meant to do that but forgot lol that would be really cool if that took care of issue.

No not all of them. Its a fantastic detector. Im amazed at what this thing can do and ease at which it does it.
