MX5 Owners - How Deep Are You Getting on Coins

Ramiroe

New member
I'm real close to ordering a MX5 or MXT Pro. I tried a friends MXT and found a dime at 10" with the 950 coil, and I'm wondering if users of the MX5 are getting anything similar. I've read a few posts on various forums and most of what I see is 5" to 8" deep. I did see a youtube video where a guy air tested a MX5 and was getting 12" plus on silver and gold rings and a silver quarter. I know air tests don't prove ground results that's why I'm asking. Does anyone have both MX5 and MXT that can give a comparison?

Thanks,

Ramiroe

Depth may be different in different soil types. Also the coil you are using will make a difference. I assume you are talking the stock coil. I think in my ground which is pretty mild think I could get a coin at 8". I had to send my MX5 back to White but when it comes back I plan on doing some testing.

Hi Ramiroe,10" on a dime is good going with any detector. The 950 coil is a great piece of kit, much underated in my opinion and may be why you could hit the dime at this depth.I have no experience with the mx5 but with the same coil I would imagine you would get similar results.I use the 950 on my M6 at the beach and I am continually surprised by the depths at which stuff comes up from.I've owned both the M6 and MXT and both are great machines,i would imagine that the MX5,from what I have read, will have very similar performance capabilities regarding depth so your choice may boil down to the list of features found on the machines. As I said before though, the 950 coil is a very capable coil depth wise so if you can use it on the MX5 it might be worth consideration.

I've had 3 MXT's and 1 MXT pro and 1 M6 and 5 prizms and 1 MX5 and In my minimal use I do not think the MX5 is as deep as was my MXT or the MXT pro,but iv'e had just a week or two on useage. The nice thing is all the MXT heads will interchange.great. will test more when the snow melts as we have 3in on ground and 6in more comming tonight and 6-8 comming monday.in sw mo. shortribs

Thanks for the replies,

Everything I have read says the MX5 has a lot going for it. Its good to hear its getting decent depth. I have about a week to decide, which ever one I get I'm sure it will find enough to pay for the one I didn't choose first.

He was testing in "all metal mode", to make it look "better" (if we are talking about the same video). I'm sure he would get other results in disk mode...

I thought the same thing.

I did test mine in the AM and disc mode. Believe it or not the disc mode was not too far behind. I believe the MX5 has a mixed mode audio also. On deeper targets you can hear the AM channel but no disc channel.

Even if the M5 is a little shallower its a great detector love the weight and head selection and now they make some after market heads to use for relics etc. Has a lot of features for the buck. I loved my MXT pro but I use the notch feature some and they took it off the pro I believe. whites are great. shortribs

Yes i do hear the all metal chanel as well. And my air tests in disc mode were very good. Mine were better than that video of them using all metal. From the first time i used the mx5 i said wow it acts alot like an mxtpro. Then i read manual and it says base on mxt platform. So yes mxtpro turned fully digital with the all metal chanel in disc .. Plus it can be used in the rain with no issues. I dont hunt in the rain but have been caught in a down pour 200 yards from my truck. I cant wait to watch your vids bill. Id make some but you would all be like what when why who?? You would be a confused mess. So i will leave that to you. Im not saying this is the best detector on the planet but it sure does a fine job at putting hard to reach coins in my pouch. ;)
