Frank, with the right coil on this detector, it will outperform units double or more the cost. I have had every Whites detector made and have done well with all of them. The MX5 is really a turn and go detector. I have not had any trouble at all with the auto track on this detector. I find clean ground and pump the coil for 5 seconds over it. It has not tracked iron in my mineralized soil. As a matter of fact, I dig less iron with the MX5 than any detector I have ever used period. I hunt for coins and jewelery so this makes the MX5 a superior detector for me. As I have said many times, it is deep and accurate. I hunt mineralized ground that would be verified by the screens of the T2, F75, and other First Texas products that I have used. In my opinion, for coin hunting, this detector is hard to beat. For the record, I have used extensively these Whites detectors: three DFx's, two V3is, one VX3, modified IDX Pro, XLT Rainbow, MXT, Coinmaster GT, and Quatum XT. I don't just own them, I use them for many, many hours. While it looks like all new detectors currently made(cheap and plastic), it is my favorite Whites of all of them. Plain and simple, hard to beat!
