Mx5 kicks alot of butt!! Im amazed ;)

Well i am really amazed at how simple and fantastic this machine is. Like an mxtpro in a lighter package and extra options i wanted !! Today i found a sheild nickel, buffalo nickel, a ring and several wheaties in my really hunted out places. And best part is my total hunt time was an hour. All the coins were in the 8" deep range with clear tones and rusty nails in each hole. Including the ring. At 8" the coins rang loud and clear. My test garden coins were easy for it to find but my mxt only located the penny and my son n laws m6 finds the penny. Not sure why this hits on all of them so easy but it does. My v3i struggles to find them all. Ive played with settings some and tried to get better results but come on the mx5 out of the box no tweaking is kickin some tail ! Im so in shock and excited due to this being only $500! Just crazy. That was my first ever sheild nickel and i found it in my front yard under power lines that along with lots of nails gave detectors lots of fits. Its a keeper for sure

It's 14kz like the MXT but with less control over fine tuning disc(It has preset levels of disc with no disc knob), no fine tuning knobs for that matter. One of the selling points is that it is made of plastic. That's not a selling point to me but to each their own, it's more of a cutting production cost while coming up with an excuse for the end user wanting it lighter. Plastic has been around for much longer than even the oldest metal detectors, it's not exactly cutting edge to "offer" the better than the old metal versions. The coils are interchangeable so you can at least save the coils for using with an MXT. It is weather resistant so you can detect in the rain, that sounds like fun. No option to lock GB. Locking the ground is important to some of us while some like a turn on and go with minimal knowledge of settings. If you do not want to fine tune the disc,.....
"need to be "mindful of the zone overlap". EG: MX5 hits a solid +20 on nickels. If you notch out +15, you'll just "scratch" on a nickel."
don't want to lock GB, you're ok with 2 programs(coin/beach), preset levels for threshold with no fine tuning.....
"Running with threshold = 0 does reduce depth !!"
"It doesn't "outperform" MXT or MXT Pro, but it does a yeoman's job of filling that niche between the Coinmaster line and the MXT / MXT Pro."
Then this is the right detector for you.

The threshold on the MX5 has 100 levels of adjustments, 0-99. This sounds impressive! But 0 is silent while 3 is the upper range of comfort. What are 4 through 99 for?
"Threshold can be adjusted from '0', which I like as it is kind of similar to the M6, to a comfortable low-level that appeals to me, such as a '1', '2' or even '3' level. They gave this adjustment a very broad range and I have no clue why, as it can adjust all the way up to a very loud setting of '99'."

Do you own one? Ive read monte's posts too. His posts had alot to do with me trying it out. So let me say this... As far as notch goes i keep from just under zero and up . Threshold around 15 is pretty close to silent. Plastic well most detectors are even the v3i display box. Only metal is aluminum battery box and i cant imagine why that would matter. Since monte is a whites dealer its a little hard for him to say this detector is equal to an mxtpro. If you havent held one or used one dont be so quick to judge. Its hard to explain how great it is. I have used trac lock but on the mx5 its like it is so fast to adjust ground tracking that i havent had any issues of it tracking out targets at all. The recovery speed is very fast. On the bench test i could not wave the coin too fast. It hit coin every pass going as fast as i could wave it. Im getting the impression its a fully digital mxtpro. Its a very solid feel just as solid as my v3i. I only use 1 program in my v3i 90% of the time and once in a while all metal so the programs fit my hunting style. Ive been detecting since 1978 ive used about every brand but pretty much stay with whites... All i can say is the mx5 hit on coins that were deep mixed with rusty nails and gave a really good tone and a decent vdi number. Monte also said in another post that it closely performs like a mxt pro. That is my feeling. It just feels like an mxt pro in its behavior . Dont be too rushed to judge as it is a very good detector

I find statements like
My test garden coins were easy for it to find but my mxt only located the penny
biased and unfair considering you probably do not have the same coils on your MX5 and MXT. I could find targets with one setup and then switch coils and not be able to find certain targets and I would not be so quick to say MY MXT CANNOT FIND TARGETS THAT MY MXT CAN FIND.(direct contradiction intended) That statement is just as accurate as yours considering there are differences besides the detector itself. Those differences(coils) were not credited in any way for the differing results.

Aarong81 hits dead on with MX5, its a joke, not even close to MXT pro, and yes I do have a MX5, BUT NOT FOR LONG

aaron how old are you? 12? ive been detecting since before you were born I would guess..lol I used the sef 10x12 coil for all of the detectors, the stock coils were not used.. all settings were equal...and stable...I cant help the results its just how it is.. the mx5 does have the tones glitch but it has the ability to find deep coins in trash. aaron im guessing you don't even own an mx5.. you really don't have any reason to say anything...your words are all guess work. fox and monte have said similar to what I have said. im a huge mxt mxt pro and m6 fan ive used them for years and years...the mx5 is not a cheap flimsy no brand name detector.. its a whites. and the bugs will be worked out...the bugs don't change the fact that im finding really good things with it..it hits very hard on good targets. there is a lot of detectors I don't like that I have used but I don't sit around and talk crap about them.. im also not going to sit here and lie I have better things to do.. most every detector is made of plastic including most upper models.. ive used the etrac and thought it was flimsy... its plastic. you may have to find another hobby if ya don't like plastic lol

Mxtpro is a fantastic detector. Most likely my favorite whites detector..ive had several.. Will have another soon.. I have a v3i now and as awesome as it is its not as fun as an mxtpro in my opinion.. The mx5 feels like a digital mxtpro..alot of the way it works resembles the mxt style to me. Once the tones issue is taken care of then i think its gonna be a great detector.. Comparing my son n laws m6 to my mx5 using the same coil targets in ground the mx5 hits harder.. I am not sure but it feels like the mx5 is quicker in response time. And may have a faster processor ... If you wanna hate the machine over a tones issue thats your choice. But sell it already lol im gonna make a video of this detector over next few days if its not too cold

Something is not quite right Aaron, I think factory setting is 20 for threshold and can be made louder for the hearing impaired. 0 is silent search and a 5 setting with quality headphones is just barely audible for most users.

I use like 15 and its almost silent. Thats with whites prostar headphones. I think 50 ohm ??

Yes, you were metal detecting WAY before my older brother was even a twinkle in my fathers eye, let alone me. I'm certainly not old enough to understand if I am THAT young. Back to grown up talk... I don't think the threshold adjustment is an issue, it is just a feature that Monte is confused why it has such a broad range while other adjustments are lacking fine tune adjustments. I'm sorry if you disagree with his tests and review, I only quoted what he had to offer. Me quoting a spec like 'plastic housing' is accurate whether or not I actually used one or not. 'No Ground Track lock' is also true whether I used one or not. As people get old and lose their hearing, the higher threshold settings will no doubt come in useful. As Larry pointed out, a setting of 5 on quality headphones is barely audible, which is what you want to be able to hear. Some will have to set it much higher to hear it, I hadn't thought of that.

biased and unfair considering you probably do not have the same coils on your MX5 and MXT.................<<<.don't forget about comments like this.. actually your whole response was based on what you thought I did.. why didn't you just ask if I used same coils instead of responding like an idiot..lol that is why I asked if you were 12...im retired and have teen foster kids that think before they go running their mouths...another quote ... I'm sorry if you disagree with his tests and review, I never said I didn't agree again why are you saying things that aren't true? oh well im sure that's just who you are.. some people are like that..have a good night!

I said "you probably don't have the same coils...." Just like you said "ive been detecting since before you were born I would guess".
Neither were claimed to be fact, don't get too upset about running your mouth.
My assumption was based on your statement "mx5 out of the box no tweaking is kickin some tail ! Im so in shock and excited due to this being only $500!"
Come to find out later.....
"lol I used the sef 10x12 coil for all of the detectors, the stock coils were not used"
But you are probably right, the MX5 must find targets that the MXT cannot when all settings are equal and the same coils are used. You did the test, not me. I never believed it before but I have to admit to wiser knowledge and I'm sorry. I'll have to see how much my old mxt-pro is worth and check out where to buy an MX5. If my mxt(pro in my case) cannot find targets that the MX5 can, that doesn't say much for the mxt. I'm shocked and blown away that the actual test garden results proved that it finds stuff the mxt cannot! .....still in shock. I'm sure the test was accurate.
