Whenever I turn the backlight on there is a slight humming noise coming through my headphones. When I turn the backlight off the noise stops. Tried different headphones same results. It is not the threshold tone. It is off 00. It is a newer production

Hey Reddog, what happens when you turn the backlight all the way up? The hum should be gone.

The reason this happens is the backlight is actually flicking on and off very rapidly at lower intensities. At full intensity it's all the way on. A similar thing happens with the backlight on some flat screen TV's.

When I tested the hum here at the factory it was very close to the noise floor of the detector with the threshold off. So it's there, but just barely. It won't affect target response or performance of the machine.

We tried a few different things to fix this at the factory could not guarantee the machine's performance after the fix. The best advice I can give is to run at full intensity backlight or none at all if you are hunting with no threshold. Not ideal, but the raw power to the coil is worth more.

It seems to be there at all levels of brightness. Thanks for the reply.

"When E Trac first came out there were several owners report a similar issue: a hum: from their POV 'the hum came and went' but persisted in a few.
Interestingly, E Trac has a backlight too. It shares similar display screens as the V3i etc.
Any reporting the issue had units replaced. The issue ceased and I heard no more about it soon after ET's introduction"

Whites took care of the bugs that I was having with mine. They replaced it, inspected and test it before shipping it back to from coast to coast in 3 days. Thanks
