and the battery pack is cracked and not bolted together correctly.

Hopefully Minelab will be quick about replacing it.

Such a tease - having the machine in the house, and being unable to use it. Tried turning up an alkaline pod for it - but nobody in the east texas region has one that's close to Dallas.

If it was made that way at the factory, then I think Minelab has some splaining to do. That's no way to treat a good customer.

HH,
BDA:cool:

Nah - it couldn't have happened shipping - it was WELL screwed in the incorrect way.

I wish i would have noticed it last night!

The crack i thought it had was just how badly it was mis-put-together! So there is no crack, and the O-Ring is still in good shape.

One of the two screws came out fine, the other came out after the use of a prybar...the screw was actually wedged between the plastic insert and the entire pod. It was a mess - but I got it out and screwed back in fine (seemingly). Its charging now (for real this time) since i saw it give a little spark as i plugged it in. So, 14 hours from now I'll give it a water test and see how it goes.

Figure I'll take my chances with this one, instead of sending it in to get repaired, and possibly getting a used one back. Found a place to pick a new one up for 90 shipped.

More time to learn more about the detector, right?!?

Hah!

Hey Hothgar, Did I understand you correctly, that you bought this unit BRAND NEW? If you did, it is STILL UNDER WARRANTY, and first off, you should contact the dealer you bought it from. That dealer should send you out a replacement IMMEDIATELY, or he may refer you to MINELAB USA in Las Vegas, Nv. Talk to Dick Shultz, and I AM WILLING TO BET, that Dick will SHIP YOU A BRAND NEW Rechargable Battery Pod.
If you bought it USED, but in NEW CONDITION, then you have to take that up with the seller, and it is his responsibility to make IT RIGHT!! Hope this helps, hh, NamVetLesTreasureSeeker

The dealer referred me to Minelab in Las Vegas. I'll be honest - i lack the patience to wait! Haha.

It was purchased new. I've heard minelab can be extremely slow with repairwork/etc - so that's why i decided to fix it myself. This morning I water test it =)

That is the type of problem that turned me off to Minelabs products. If it were me i would call them and direct them to send a new pod and after it arrives send them the unsatisfactory one. I believe they would do that.

aye im getting turned off to minelab also between replacing lower shafts shafts, knobs , wobbly coil , 2 new batteries which took forever for minelab to get them back from minelab lol 3 weeks for me is forever and the crummy blue headphones where audio different audio targets are hard to tell apart as compared to my sov with good headphones can tell a bottlecap right off...............problem is whats the options no more cz20 .......anybody know who changes headphones i have just ordered the straight shaft from ebay a pod from regular batteries and if i could get a good headphone for the excal think i may have a good machine just bugs me minelab uses such flimsy hardware on a thousand+ metal detector i think they need some competition HH mooncusser

Hi Hothgar, I'm not trying to be INSULTING, but I hope that you did not VOID YOUR WARRANTY by trying to repair the detector yourself. I did not reread the original post, so I don't remember exactly what was damaged during shipping. Like I said, if you call MINELAB USA, and talk to Dick Shultz, I'm quite sure your repair will be given HIGH PRIORITY. But, that is your decision. GOOD LUCK, HH, Les Robinson

Send ML a letter and let them know what you think.

I used to use Garrett 500XL. it had a one year warranty but even after 8 years They were replacing the internal battery for free when ever i sent it back. That was amazing service. Garrett provide a fast turn around and never gave a hard time, just fine quality service. I am giving some thought to a new machine and the Garrett Infinium is looking better all the time.

Who did you purchase it from?
