Anybody used/got any thoughts on the Musketeer.I've heard it's really good in the trash and deep.Thinking about getting one for my nephew as it's quite simple to use and less expensive than the sov.Cheers,Neil.

Digger who is the forum moderator over on the X-Tera forum has written a very good article on the Musky called "Hunting with the Musky made easy". I assume that it can still be found on Minelab's home page somewhere. I know it was put up there a couple of years back, so it should still be there.

Neil, the Musky's are great detectors. I own two Advantages. I use them for hunting iron infested ghost towns and logging camps. Very fast recovery speed, excellent iron discrimination, great depth and they handle bad ground better than any detector I've used. You can swing them fast or slow and/or crank up the discrimination without any depth loss. I think the Sovereign and Advantage are the best two detector combo to have to cover any hunting situation.

Thanks crazy,i've heard a lot of good things about the musky especially their performance in high iron areas.I thought it would be good for my nephew to use due to it's simplicity and good for me on my high iron fields.Do they handle bad ground conditions than the sov??

Yes, in my ground they handle the bad ground just as well as the Sovereign. I've been taking a young neighbor detecting. I had seen him numerous times down at the beach and around town detecting. I learned he was one of my wife's students and that his father recently passed away soon after they started metal detecting together. They bought some cheap Bounty Hunters.Anyway, I let him try my Advantage and after showing him how to pinpoint in discrimination mode he was finding coins right away. He's only 12 and had no problems learning the Advantage quickly. I thought ground balancing might confuse him so he hunted in the fixed mode and even in my bad ground it ran smoothly and he was hitting some fairly deep coins. I have two of them and he really likes it so I'm thinking that the next time we go hunting I might let him keep it.
