Musky on the beach?? Need help and info!!

Hey guys,

Well I hit the beach yesterday with the Musketeer Advantage with a 15' WOT Coil hoping to pull some goodies after the storm. Well, I got skunked, not a thing except a large sheet of brass. Not only did I get skunked, but I quickly realized that I was unable to ground balance out the wet sand/salt. It just chattered like a squirrel the whole time in the wet.

Did I ground balance wrong?? Is it possible to use one on the wet sand? I'm guessing the single frequency is what gave me the problem and these units just aren't suitable for wet sanding.... any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Jason

Jason a smaller coil will help it as well as turning down the sens and turning up the disc a little. Ive used one on the wet sand at the ocean, honestly cannot remember if I tried ground balancing it but most likely the gb doesnt have the range needed. it should run well enough for you to distinquish targets from falses if you drop to the 10" coil or better yet the 8"one. its one of a few single freq detectors that I found offer acceptable performance for occasional salt water hunting. the xterra 70, mxt and f75 do well there also to name a few. if your gonna do a lot of wet sand hunting its best to switch over to a sov/excal, explorer, etrac.

I figured as much that is wasn't as useful as other machines on the wet. I have a few other machines, but just got the Musky and wanted to try it out. I'm normally a dirt fisherman, but due to the heavy rains we had I figured the beach would be a better option... Thanks for the advice guys!! I'll stick to using the Musky on dry land I guess.
