Musketeer Advantage

I have had a few of the Musky's, a couple Colts, an XS, and an Advantage, and they were all good detectors, so good I decided to get another one. I found a really nice Advantage and it should arrive today. I haven't been detecting hardly any so far this summer, too busy on the farm and too hot & dry but am looking forward to giving the Advantage a try when I can. I remember the Musky's giving that sweet round sound on coins, hard to describe but you can almost feel them. Just wondering if any of ya's are still using any of the Musky's from time to time, they are older models but can still hold their own..

I'm sure you know the Sovereign forum is kind of the unofficial home for those metal detectors. Many rave about the depth of those machines and ability to handle rough ground and iron. Only problem I see with them is no tone alerts, otherwise I might have added one to my line up as they are a low frequency machine and so should penetrate my soil well and also hit hard on copper/silver coins.

Higher frequency machines (say 10khz or higher) never do well in my soil, or I should say I haven't found one yet that would. That's one of the reasons I think the GT gets so deep in my soil. Sure, it has frequencies up into the 25khz range, but the starting frequency is only 1.5khz and it steps up by 1.5khz from there across it's BBS spectrum. Best of both worlds. Incidently, FBS ranges up to 100khz. After owning 3 FBS machines, my theory is this may be why my GT is deeper for me and more stabile/smooth in my somewhat mineralized to high mineral sites as has been the case for some others in their soil, and also why many beach or water hunters say the stability and depth of the BBS Xcal or Sovereign machines is second to none at their sites. There appears to be certain soil or sand conditions where BBS just excells beyond all other machines for some reason.

Here's something you ain't going to want to miss- Check out this recent thread with a link to an awesome site built by an enthusiast on all those machines you talked about. It's a WEALTH of history and information on all of them...

Skiwhiz, that is one nice detector,i have unfortunately lost mine,i put the wot on,man it was something.I hit coins so deep with that detector,5khz,manual ground balance, true no motion all metal.I always hip mounted mine,as i did the sovereign.I have run some deep detectors, but that thing was crazy deep, you can not go by the air test as much, but once that 5khz goes in the ground, this is something. It did love bottle caps,or screw caps, one of them.I also had my on a Anderson shaft,I don't even want to talk about it no more.lost a bunch of equipment in a bad divorce.Heck, you might have mine,i want it back.Have fun whiz kid. ;-)
Sorry about your loss DirtyDimes, the one I got came from a fella in Connecticut. Not sure if he bought it new or where he got it, but it looks as close to just coming out of the box as you can get plus he even had the manual for it. Hopefully some time you can get another Musky since you liked it so much.

SkiWhiz, tell us what you think of the musky, like hitting a quarter at 12inches in the ground, and how it will put a sovereign to shame.Maybe not,i will never get another one then.It don't play enough music for the sovereign boys though,so i may be able to find one.Hope to get a report about this detector that minelab was dumb to drop, for these darn LCD detectors,i can't stand this LCD takeover crap. The sov will be gone soon!. :-(.
I will let you all know how it does as soon as I can give it a try on a real hunt. It is going to be awhile, I had lipotripsy yesterday for my kidney stones and I need some time to heal up. I am anxious to give the Musky a try.

Hey Skiwhiz,
I still have a Musketeer Advantage, although I haven't used it for a while due to the type of hunting I have been doing.
I do like this detector and have made some nice finds with it in heavily hunted areas.
I am familiar with the coins sound you are referring to and for a low frequency machine, it hits hard on nickels.
I does have an appetite for bottle caps though which makes for tough hunting in parks and high trash areas.
I have had great results around old home sites with mine also.
It is a great detector in my opinion.
Hope you are able to get out soon and start swinin'.. looking forward to seeing some great finds with the Musky!!
Good luck and happy hunting,
Felix

I find the musky , is alot like my blisstool , a great detector , my favorite set up with the musky was the small coil , but I found the GT gave me more info , would like to get another mausky , somday.

Finally got the chance to try out the Musky. I had to go to the doctors to see if I could get the ok to go back to work on the farm and to get the ok to start taking my Plavix and Aspirin again. Brought the Musky with me in case the doc said go for it. He told me I am good to go, the wife dropped me off at a ball field for a half hour while she went to a couple stores. Its been awhile since I have used one of the Musketeers and was pleasently please how well it found me nickels and foil. I like finding jewelry/rings and now know if my coil swings over any I will find them. Also founds a few quarters and dimes, some at very good depth. I like the flutter on bad targets and the nice round sound on good targets, Can't wait to spend some more time with the Musky. Steve.

steve you bring back some good memories , , that musky is a nice machine,
