Musket barrel with ball lodged in barrel

Musket barrel I found in a campsite a while back with ball still lodged in barrel. It's a mystery how it happend but I'm glad to have recovered it!....HH

Thanks guys, another one of my favorite finds. When I went to clean the dirt out the barrel is when I discovered the ball in it. I couldn't hardly believe it. I had my dentist X-Ray it for me but the new technology won't penetrate the iron

I've been digging since 1985 and gotten a few barrels and seen alot through the years at shows. And this is the 1st I've seen where you could see the bullet. No x-Ray needed. Very cool piece.

Thanks for the comment man. The barrel has been cut and is slightly bent where the ball is. The only thing I can figure is it was bent without him knowing it, and when he rammed the ball it hung up in the bend. Then maybe he tried to cut the bend out but didn't quite get all of it. It's cool because you can hear the black powder sliding from one side to the other so I know it was loaded to fire....HH

Thanks for the comment! It is a percussion musket. Wish I could ID it. It might be a civilian model, although it was found in a small confederate campsite that Griersons raiders ransacked.
