I have found 6 of these in my front yard its a little bigger than a pea but has no holes in it just wanted a few opinions the picture. I'm posting its next to a 65 dime i found them both this morning ...
Thanks Les HH

It would be a pistol round ball if it is lead, heavy? Oxidized white? If its a round ball it will probably have a ring around the center of it from the mold, and or a small flat spot on one side. If it's steel, then probably a ball berring of some sort I would guess. Really hard to tell with the low-definition picture.

i know its a crappy pic, phone cam what can i do but i appreciate you just explaining them to me jj that's all i was looking for they are berrings or something they are the color of fishing weights no real mold line thanks for breaking it down
Thanks Les

I have a modern cap and ball pistol and modern balls have no flat spots or parting lines from the mold. It looks to be about a 36 cal. ball, most likely mobern.

My guess if you live out in the country, is buckshot. A 12 ga. 2-3/4 shot shell will hold 9 each double OO lead shot. If they feel heavy, are a dull grey white mix of oxidation on the surface, not magnetic, I would suspect them to be lead.

I shoot Black Powder Arms and quality factory made Round Ball bullets have no mould seam line or flashing and spur marks but my home cast bullets do. If you live in Civil War country, there may be a chance they are from that era. Could also have been Sling Shot ammo but I'm thinking most today use steel ball bearings and I would suspect any of those would have signs of rust. Maybe you need to hit the yard again and see if you find more and to establish any kind of pattern.

I live in Grand Prairie TX. right between Dallas and Fort Worth so i guess they could be anything i appreciate all the info.....
