I need some help with the ID on this. I'm generally a coinshooter and have to admit I know little to nothing about relics.
I found this in the woods behind an old school. It is ball shapped and ID'ed in the nickel range on a Fisher ID Excel. About 4'' deep.

Looks to be around .44 to .50 caliber and chewed. Human teeth marks are present. This was something people did in days long past. They knew nothing about lead poisoning and not only carved lead bullets, but chewed on them in idle time. Don't believe this meant "Hospital bullet." A man would have choked to death if he swallowed a bullet while having a limb cut off. Doctors carried a dowel rod (oak or hickory) with a leather thong for the person to bite down on. If this wasn't available, a stick would have made a better substitute over a bullet. That's just an old tale. Welcome to relic hunting: you've found one. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
