Musical reeds?

Any idea of what this was used on. It is some type of musical gadget. It has four reeds. The small item with a nail in it is the shaft.

Don't know the name of it but seems I recollect seeing one when I was a youngster in school. Its round and the music teacher would blow in it like a harmonica, except it was use to get us to sing in pitch.Know what I mean?

Mark, seems like I have seen something like that. Since I am not into music I really don't have a clue. Thanks:lmfao:

Thanks, have been trying to figure it out. The shaft had me confused. Looks like it was made to move.

Definitely pitch producing free-reeds, but I don't think it's a pitch pipe. Look at a harmonica reed plate and you see that each reed is a different length for a different note. On your item, the reeds are all the same length (same pitch) or maybe two are slightly longer than the other two.

Could be from a toy musical instrument or "squeaky" animal. Could be from a concertina or a squeeze-box. But I must admit I've never seen anything like it.

You know, I can blow through those reeds and get a tone. It came from a late 1800 to early 1900 site.
