Bavaria Mike

Finally getting around to posting my museum display. We had a nice grand opening with a champagne toast, a few guest speakers, town mayor, journalists and many people. The theme was

Gday Mike

that is just awesome
a credit to you
and shines a positive, bright light on metal detecting
big congratulations :clapping:

Fantastic Mike! It must have been very satisfying to get the display up and for other to enjoy your finds. I know that I'm personally fascinated when I see displays like that that tie you back to times past.
Mick Evans.

Early usages of the phrase "politically correct" have been found in various contexts, which may not relate to the current terminology.[4][5] Examples of the term can be found as early as the 18th century. The previous meaning was 'in line with prevailing political thought or policy'. The term previously used 'correctness' in its literal sense and without any particular reference to language that might be considered offensive or discriminatory.(quoted) I WAS LOOKING FOR MEANING IN YOUR STATEMENT
I think the statement here's the empty case ,following the previous statement no mention of metal detecting for political reasons,is quit profound.
Am I correct in thinking if not for metal detecting the case would still be empty?
Your accomplishments are outstanding but please give credit were it is due.
My thinking is if the persons in the offices of political reasoning were giving the insight needed to see through the delusion that has confounded them to the hobby enjoyed by those recovering the lost be it trash or treasure metal detectorist would fair a bit better.Sincerely

as you asked the same questions I did when I was informed by the museum curators we should not mention metal detecting. The political correctness is this, we were advised by an Archaeologist who has something to say in the scheme of things that we should not advertise metal detecting. They do not want people getting the idea they can buy a metal detector and get rich quick by invading historical sites. The other political reason, some of the finds come from a local castle site, there is a club renovating the castle ruins and we don't want to start a war between clubs, LOL. I have a detecting permit, more politics, clearly states the castle site is off limits however, due to people coming and detecting at will, I was given permission to detect the castle by the town mayor as long as I worked with the museum and Historical Society I have belonged to for several years. Those finds are the canon balls, crossbow bolt tips, long bow arrow tip, hook gun balls and a few others. I do agree we should not advertise detecting, ironically everyone knows me as they see me on the fields so it is not a local secret either, LOL. HH, Mike

Excellent post Mike. That is one outstanding group of artifacts and a well presented display. Thanks for the work you've done in preserving your area's history and willingness to share them in your town's museum. Also, thanks for posting the pics to this forum. Well done! HH Randy

I do understand that the thing for you to do is move forward in the steps presented you,I'm glad to see you took no offense to my post for none was intended,I just think political correctness is a bunch of emc=
Thanks for the work your doing!

AWESOME job Mike Thanks for sharing! Excellent job on the display, which part of Bavaria? i was stationed in Bavaria (Germany) back in the early 80's...

Yeah Mike,

Very Cool.

Thanks for posting this. It is inspirational for us all.

I find that others I talk with who are not part of the hobby say things like "wow that is so cool, I have always wanted to get a metal detector think of all the cool things you can find". The thing is that most of them have no real clue how much effort and research it takes to start making consistently good finds. When I tell some coworker or other person about the amount of time it can take to learn the machine and find good spots, often their eyes glaze over and you can see that their someday is still a ways off. There are those who jump in and the metal detector sits in a closet for 15 years until sold at a yard sale, agin did not know how much was really involved.

Then some are serious and put in the time. I am glad I put it off all the years that I did, I think I have a better appreciation for the hobby and those involved.

Jeff
