Multi or ttf?

I’ve had my Etrac for about 2 years and I’ve hunted in ttf almost since day 1. I recently read on the forums that multi give better deep signals so I’ve been hunting in multi and switching back and forth between ttf and multi when I find targets. Wondering what others experiences are as I have found that I get better signals on deep coins in multi than in ttf. Can you guys tell me your experience and possible reasons for this?

I think the faint and deeper high silver tones in Multi are much easier to pick out than the fainter mono tones in TTF.

I always hunt in multi conductive until I get to the point where I am having trouble getting any good signals in the area I am hunting. I'll then use TTF to see if I can pick any left overs out that might have been iron masked. If the area, like a Civil War camp or an old house site, is thick with iron I almost always use TTF, a small coil and swing very slow to pick the targets out. This keeps the nails from giving high tones and allows me to listen and focus on just the conductive tones in between all the ferrous tones.I also like that the big iron relics will often come in as a high tone in TTF.

In my opinion, for general hunting and deep silver hunting there is nothing better than using Multi Conductive. There is so much information communicated through the tones and the multi tones setting was one of the primary reasons I decided to buy an E-Trac.

I use ttf with a small coil in iron, other than that it is multi conductive. If you're new to it may take a while to get used to it but once you do you will enjoy. There are times that only ttf will do so don't write it off. Happy Hunting

I live in east central Wisconsin where about all there is to hunt is old coins. I’ve done ok on silver over the past couple years in ttf but based on what you guys are saying, I think I need a small coil to get through the iron that I’m hunting in. Any suggestions on a coil that will separate better than others?

Have you been hunting in thick iron with the big coil? If that is the case and youve been getting silver with it then absolutely get a small coil and go right back in there in TTF. You know how many different opinions as far as coils go I can tell you that my Sunray X5 is great for doing this exact thing however any SMALL coil will do fine I'm sure.

I also use the Sunray X-5 and highly recommend it. You can usually find a good used one for 80-90 or you can still buy them new from some of the dealers.

Yeah, finding silver in all the iron has been a real lesson in patience. I am definitely in the Market for a small coil. Most of my silver has come hunting in ttf on iffy signals that would bounce but occasionally bounce to 12-45.....plenty of Merc’s and a few rosies. I even pulled a barber dime on a real iffy signal about 6’ away from a pad mounted transformer in a park that the f44 didn’t even blink at. I will look at the x-5 and see what is available.
