Multi or 4 Tone

What are you all running . I ran multi the first 3 or 4 times out .I then did a little test in my house [ I was board ]
I had some coins on floor with nails under carpet and for a bonus some rusty nails near the coins .
When i went to 4 tone the coins were loud and clear The multi tones were iffy . What is the advantage of multi tone .
