Mudhole hunt and a happy lady........

On the way home from hunting an old homesite I got a call on the cellphone from a guy I found a lost ring for about 15 years ago. He said his mother had lost her wedding band and asked if I would come see if I could find it. I stopped by home, got the Goldtrax Baron and followed his directions to where she thought she lost it. The lady who lost it and her husband met me there. She had been picking up pecans at the place, which is about 8 miles northeast of where I live, and had also scattered some feed for a flock of geese at a lake there. She thought she had lost it somewhere there, but didn't know for sure. Both her and her husband are in their early 80's and she told me she had been wearing the ring for 62 years. I hunted the area where she fed the geese first because the area with the pecan trees covered about a half acre and had 6 inches of leaves on the ground. The ring was in the leaves near the pecan trees. Took about an hour and half to find but no problem knowing I had it when I swung over it. I was running the Goldtrax in all metal mode as I normally do when hunting jewelry and it hit really hard. The lady cried, and told me I would never know how happy I had just made an old woman. They tried to pay me but, with one exception, I've never took any money for finding lost stuff for people. Photo isn't very good but could barely get it from her long enough to take the pic.

The homesite I hunted ealier was just about too wet to hunt, it's in a low area to begin with and with all the rain we've had it was pretty much a mudhole. I hit water at two inches or so every time I dug a target. Did get a 1944 merc, 1941 and 1942 wheaties, and a few other coins from the 1960's but it was so messy I gave up after an hour or little more. At least I gave up for now:).

Good deed.. Congrats...:clapping:

I don't think it can get any better than that!!!! We probably can't even comprehend how much that really meant to that lady. It seems like that ring was a very important part of her life. It couldn't have worked out better!!:clapping:

I've found quite a few rings and other jewelry items for people who lost them, a lot of gold and silver jewelry I coudn't return, untold numbers of coins and some nice relics, but I have to say finding that ring was the most satisfying find I've made with a metal detector in almost 40 years of swinging one. The lady said she's worn the ring for 62 years, that means I was three years old when she put it on for the first time, and no amount of money could replace it, or the joy I was privileged to share with her when I placed the ring in her hand. Thanks again.......

They were young.

Tha war was over.

She held onto her promise and her ring for 62 years.

Thanks to JB, she is still holding on to both after all these years.

Thanks JB,

Tabdog
