Worked a small sledding hill for a couple of hours today and was getting frustrated with all the deeps and chips on the f70. Been running 4h on the tone setting and wasn't liking it. decided to try mud's dp tone setting and I love it! It sorted out all the different info I was getting in the earphones and it all made sense! dug 16 quarters 6 dimes i nickel and two pieces of junk jewelry. happy day!

You get comfortable with it, and you can fly through the trash and those Q's and D's jump right out..It says in the owners manual something about DP tones giving the most audio feedback regarding the target, and that's right. Couple that with the modulated audio, and you will be able to distinguish targets their size and their depth by tone. If you keep disc at 1, you will still get to hear all the iron and foil too..its a very helpful feature when a person is trying to find the "lane" on a field or beach. I'm having a very hard time with my other brand machine that only has 4 tones...I cant tell a D from a Q, or a tab from a nickel...but with DP you CAN!
Keep us posted on your learning curve as you use this more Ed...you might find out like I did that it really is the simplest tone setting to hunt in and not hard to understand immediately.

How will the DP tone distinguish between say a silver dime and a piece of aluminum can at the same depth?

Ran the dp tone in a city park today that has a lot of clad mixed with a lot of trash. I dug some of the lower trash tones just to check and found the machine very accurate on it's seperation of signals.
Foil in the dp mode is a much lower sound than say a dime or copper penny. After a few signals it became obvious the difference between a piece of can slaw and a coin.
I was able to move trough the trash with few questionable signals and pull 50 coins in about an hour and a half.
