much difference between original falsing models and models now

I still have one of the first models that has the falsing issue (been holding out for winter to send it in). Are there many improvements in performance after its fixed... are they just subtle differences if there are any.

In my understanding there was issues with the coil being able to ground balance properly. People that had the falsing issue also reported quirky ground balance numbers and the pin point was not accurate. Others will chime in. But if I had the falsing problem I would send it in. The AT Pro is a great detector. It should do very well for years to come.

Mine had a falsing problem so I sent it back. Got it back all fixed up. Hunted a few hours when it developed a new trick. When turned off and then back on it wouldn't "remember" the mode I was searching in. If hunting in coin mode and turned off the on it would start up in custom mode. The reason I learned that trick was because the ground balance wouldn't auto balance. I tried to reset the machine and low and behold it forgot the settings. Called in to Garrett and was told to box it up and ship it back for a new one. Just got it back yesterday. Turnaround was about 10 days. Put it all together and went to the coin garden to test it out. WOW! The new machine works so much better than the old one. With the old one I had way more EMI chatter from the transformer box in my back yard. New machine no chatter at 7 bars sensitivity. Old machine would sound off for a quarter or sterling ring and the tone was the same nice ringing sound. Nickels and pull tabs sounded the same. I had read about listening for subtle sound differences for different targets which is why I built the coin garden. With the new machine I can hear these subtle differences. Nickels make that nice strong midtone grunt. The quarter and ring sound off with different pitches of high tones.
I'm glad to have my machine back so I can put it to work! The folks at Garret are very helpful and listened as I explained my problem and gave me the best solution to fix the problem.

thanks for the feedback...looking forward to sending it in and trying it when it returns. Mine has never retained the custom settings since I got it as well as the falsing, so ive always wondered if it also had other glitches in the program that I wasnt aware of. Have to bite the bullet and send it in

the deference is night and day. i sent my back for falsing problem, two weeks later i got it back whit a new coil,no more problems.i have ben removing gold and silver from the beach since

I sent mine in, they fixed the falsing problem, and it seems to work fine so far. However, I noticed that when I turn the machine off and back on again, it does not remember the settings in custom mode. Is this normal? I thought it was supposed to remember the settings. It's not that big of a deal, as long as that's the only problem. If I have to ship this thing internationally AGAIN I will be pretty upset.

JC,

Mine would only remember 1 custom setting. If i changed it and turned it off then on it would remember the old custom setting, but not the original. I tried resetting it, pulling the batteries out, but nothing worked. Call Garrett and explain it to them. Maybe they can help.

Hi,,I thought mine was doing that same thing until I figured out that I was actually pushing the button twice before turning it off....Only push the off button once and let it go to turn it off..This took care of my problem....JJ

Hi,, With the new fix it totally eliminated the falsing problem also it's rock steady stable...Many report more depth since it's running more stable allowing for more sensitivity to be applied..I'm fortunate I have a new one with the starting serial numbers of 510...It runs very smooth just like it should no problems at all....JJ

Yes, it will only remember the most current custom setting. But when you change it to a new setting it should save that setting. Mine was reverting to a previous setting. Not remembering the most current.
