Mr Bills Mods??????

I just purchased a Classic III SL w Mr Bills mods. Can anyone tell me what to expect? I hear the depth is awesome! Any mr bill mod users?

You have the machine Whites should have produced themselves and for once with third party modifications there's no drawbacks.
In ground depth is increased and the threshold and ground balance mods allow you to use the extra performance.
I don't think you could say there's a large depth increase over the last Classics produced but there is over the earlier models. Mr.Bill leads, Whites follows, same as with the Surfmaster Pulse which Whites were very slow in improving, in fact I still think your better having his modified older P.I. with mods than the latest model.

Do keep your eye out for a Whites Classic Turbo. If you see one grab it.

Instructions: Classic II, III, ID, & IDX, & Pro series, Modified.

Adjust Threshold first.

Threshold Setting:
Pull trigger, and adjust the Threshold control to hear the Threshold audio comfortably. One needs to set the Threshold audio loud enough to hear strongly, so that you can set the Ground Balance. Reset it to softer levels for deep hunting in the All Metal mode.

Ground Balance: *
Pull trigger, and hold on or set trigger forward, locked on. Adjust Threshold audio to your hearing. Holding coil a couple of feet above ground parallel, lower coil to ground. The Threshold audio should remain at the same level. If the Threshold audio rises or drops, the Ground Balance control can be adjusted one way or another, so that lowering the coil to the ground the Threshold audio stays the same. Setting it this way would give you a neutral Ground Balance point. Having a slight increase when lowering coil to ground would give you a positive Ground Balance offset. The same in reverse, if the audio went slightly silent, giving you a negative Ground Balance offset. They could be times being a little (+) positive, or (-) negative ground balanced, may enhance target response.
* Ground balance adjustment has a direct affect on the display reading, (ID, IDX). The display has been factory pre-set at a slightly positive (+) ground balance setting. Adjusting ground balance up or down a little from this point, should have negligible affect on the display accurateness.

Power Boost Discriminate:Boost circuitry comes into affect at about the 4 o

I agree on your assessment on having the older PI. It's wasn't a good thing of Whites getting rid of the external Pulse Delay control in favor of the Gain Control. They could have incorporated both controls into the unit.

I haven't ever seen a "Turbo" version. I did contact the German company that had produced it at one time, but nothing ever materialized with the contact. I think they are out of business now ???

Here in Holland a certain Will Hoffman is doing the modifications for the classic series and ID/IDX. It is popular here and I tried one here in my old farmfield and it was very unstable. I think it has a bit too much boost for me. The whites IDX with Mr. Bills mods was a bit more stable.

The turbo that we have here, has a switch that you can turn on and off, and of course an added manual GEB. I tried to find pictures of how the turbo looks likes, but they all have copyrights.

That Will also does a recreational modification for people that detect beaches and parks. It seems that you dig less foil and cans/pulltabs. I found 2 pictures of it. The picture above shows the items not found anymore after the modification.

Will Hoffman is a dealer as well. www.metaaldetectie.com is his website.

Hope it was helpfull a bit...

Eric, the Netherlands.

Found one after all................

I found a whites classic sl turbo for sale now for 150 euro here in the classifieds. Still thinking if I will get it...

Certainly would like to see one. Even a photo would be nice.

I did drop the Dutch site a email, I hope the translation was good.

you have a sweet metal in the classic and Mr. Bill is the man for tweaking the classic form white's. My oldest son is 30 years old and has been using an IDX with Mr. Bill's modifications for about 4 years and he loves it, he can jump out of his car and have it dialed in to most hunting sites with in a couple of minutes, I know one thing for sure, I do not want to hunt behind him, slim pickens.

The one thing that you must get is a small coil for heavy trash sites, the classic series is amazing for shooting thru iron nails, good luck and post some pictures of your finds.

Hi Mr Bill,

which detector have more depth in discriminate mode than the Idx Pro modified ( not the classic ).?

There is no cut & dry answer for this question. They are just too many variables involved.

What works for me in my environment, may be a big flop for you in your environment. Depth statements are only relative to the actual test going on in that one place & time. :help:

Ok Mr. Bill

I have an IDX pro ( without mods), and I want to buy a cheap Eagle II sl ( 90 ) , is better o the same, do you recomend me the eagle?

thanks

I have no recommendation one way or the other. The Eagle is certainly a lot different unit that the Classic series IDX Pro. Just what are you trying to achieve by purchasing the Eagle ?? Is it's just to add another detector, or are you looking for a specific thing for it to do ?

Mr. bill; Sometime ago A fellow had a M6 that had been modded with the MXT Grip arrangement. He had it for sale but I was not able to get to him quick enough. I think Todd, at White's done the Mod as a special favor. I asked him about doing one for me but he declined.Could you do that Mod? I much prefure the MXT Grip setup.

the one thing I hate about the m6 is the fact that the id screen does not light up..... that annoys the heck outta me

These are pics I already had. I know it's not a Whites but this could help. You have to buy a light that has a switch on it. Get red for night hunting. Just use the sticky back velco to use on the Whites. I bought several on ebay at about $1.00 each plus shipping.
