MPX digital metal detector

funtime

New member
Hi Everyone:

I'm new to this forum and quite new at any kind of forums period, but I think this would be the best place to get help with my new endeavor of buying the right metal detector for a beginner with very little experience. I have read about this metal detector, the MPX-Pro digital metal detector on the Kellyco website and was wondering if any of you on this forum have used one or have heard of the pro's and con's of it. Through reading different areas of the forum I have come to learn that the Compadre by Tesoro,Garrett Ace 250 and the F2 by fisher are thought of highly, but I have been unable to find anything on the MPX-Pro. It seems to be reasonable priced and be a good machine by the information on the sight, but I feel the best way to find out about it's performance and ease of use is to talk to the professionals in this field, so here I am, any help you can share with me would be greatly appreciated and I really look forward to continuing finding out very informative information on this forum from all of you. ::clap:

I've heard bad things about it.

It's probably ok. But not much.

$152 for a life time waranty and one of the best metal detectors
in the market for trash and finds gold with style. Compadre.

250 is well talked about. But after using Compadre, it's response
speed is painfully slow. Does not respond to small gold like the
Compadre. Lots of folks like it. But I'm spoiled. I like gold.

HH,

Thanks for your quick reply and the information. It seems that the compadre is living up to its quote "Less is Better".

Can you tell me some of the bad things you heard or is that not allowed?

From what Ive read the MPX 10" coil is the only one...thats bad if your in a really trashy area.

Must have coils!...except for the compadre as it comes with a smaller one.

Hi Wishful Thinker:

I wasn't sure but went back on Kellyco website and they are offering a special 2 coil deal for the MPX Pro, a 10" and 8". Again not knowing about detectors, I don't know if 8" is small enough.

I know there are smaller ones on other detectors but in the case of coils how small do you really need or should you have?

Should one of the factors in considering which metal detector to purchase is its ability to accept a number of different size coils?

I would stay with one of the major brands but it's your decision to make. Base your decision to get a detector with the features you desire, research detector terms, send off for all the brand flyers. If there is a detector club near by, check it out and see what others are using in your area. Mid priced detectors offer maybe the best performance for the money and if you don't mind buying used, you can really save some money. Check out the forums and see what others are finding and what detectors they are using, buy a detector according to the type areas you will be hunting and whether you will be coin/jewelry/relic hunting.

The 4" is really small. Only helps in really bad places where
you can not get any depth because of the trash.

There are a variety of coils from 7" to 5 1/2" that work well.

I use 7" and 5.75" most of the time on my four machines.

I get supprising depth with a 5.75" Tesoro coil.

If I just had a choice of one coil, it would be the 5.75"

I also have a 8", 9"X8" and a 12" X 10" coils.

I used to have a 10" BH and a 4" Gold Sniper Coil.

Got rid of those.

HH,

Hey Tabdog:

Just as I suspected great information, especially for a newbie. I am filing all this good information away for referencing because if someone with experience is willing to share I believe that you should take advantage of it. As always, Thank You. :clapping:

If you go to Kellyco's website and look under used /refurbished they have F4's for $299. which is made by Bounty Hunter for Fisher. The're used as demos...they have a quick recovery speed and for that price well?
And you can buy the cheaper B-H coils.

yes i own one of these MPX PRO metal detectors in australia, they are great to start out with and are 12.5 mhz where the others are 6.5mhz. They are a very deep seeking machine and the higher mhz is great and loves silver it goes crazy near silver. Most people dont like them and it is because of a key element you must go excessivley slow with this detector as it does go deep. It only lacks a coin id (eg 64-68 etc) if this was programed into this machine you could not buy better for your money. and zinc coins have there own distinctive sound. The titan 3000 my mate has one here and has found over $5,000 in one and two dollar coins in the past twelve months in parks etc. i have this same machine (only in a dicovery3300 same machine) and found $130 in last few months this is truely an australian zinc coin machine. The big bonus is that it has coin id eg 64-68 is a two dollar coin and 69-74 is a one dollar coin, we know exactly what we are digging this is a great machine and we use a hand pinpointer and a 22inch digging trowel. Both the mpx pro and dicovery.3300/ titan 3000 have an ecellant pinpointer installed. As far as the garret Ace 250 goes its a waste of money buying it. It goes off all the time and the head phones without a reduction switch nearly send you deaf, it has no coin id but the bonus is a very light and attractive machine but this is all i could recomend on the garret ace sports 250, stay with the mpx pro or the titan 3000/discovery 3300 and you cannot go wrong. The bounty hunter time ranger is not what it is cracked up to be either as i have one of these also and my mate always found up to 4 times as many coins in the same area with the titan 3000. but the time ranger with the 4 inch coil in all metal mode is a wiz as it goes deep into the ground to find iron, horse shoes , nails etc. Number one choice in aust. is the titan 3000/ discovery 3300 and number two choice is the mpx pro for depth and an all rounder, but still needs a coin id installed into its program.

THE F4 IS N O T MADE BY BOUNTY HUNTER !!!!!

The F2/F4 is a great machine for the money, but I repeat it is NOT made by Bounty Hunter !!!

For some great FACTUAL information on the F2 and the F4, check out this site:

http://www.fisherf75.com/

Their made by TEKNETICS....Who makes.....Bounty Hunter and TITAN and several others.
PLEASE read and learn, thats what the forum is for!

so when i called it bounty hunter thats what i meant to say, their just made a little different.just like chevy owning isuzu,or
dodge owning jeep etc.

The F2/F4 is not made by Teknetics either, their made by Fisher. First Texas is their parent company who also happens to make Bounty Hunter and Teknetics, and yes they share technology, but it's still a Fisher (and far better then the Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 or First Texas/BH Titan 3000).

Take a look here for a report on the these three detectors by an informed detectorist:

I just bought a MPX off E-Bay and am excited to try it out. According to Glen H. who tested it for Kelly-co, it is a "fantastic machine for beginners as well as pros". I hope it works better than it looks when you have it in hand. Its really cheezy looking, and that 10" coil is really heavy. I'll let you all know how it performs in my next post.

As I understand it, MPXs are Chinese detectors and at least mostly sold by Kellyco.

Don't remember the model, but my sister-in-law bought one for my nephew a couple years back after the Kellyco rep pushed it hard. It was a cheap machine and performed accordingly.

When bought new, the units have a several times higher retail then actual selling price which seems like a marketing ploy to sucker the unknowledgable into thinking they are getting a great deal.

Go with the Teknetics Delta 4000 for your first detector then move up to the Omega. Teknetics Omega 8000 is the best kept secret out there.
