Mounting Coinsearch coil?

BlackX

New member
I picked up an old Coinsearch coil on here (fast shipping!) but it didn't come with any mounting hardware. The stock--at least I presume it's stock--plastic bolt and wingnut for the BBS 800 does not fit it right. It looks like something should spread out on the plastic wings or else fit inbetween them. Which is it? Any good ideas on jury-rigging it? Or where to by replacement mounting parts? Also need a coil cover for one. Are they available anywhere anymore?

Is it normal for them to be slightly convex on the bottom?

Does the end of the rod normally fit a bit too loosely into the Coinsearch mounting bracket?

Thanks.

They are a bit convex on the bottom.

Give minelab a call, the same spacer is used on the Xterra 70s elliptical coil, they will probably get you one or two in no time.

The newer rods are actually very tight fitting in the coinsearch coil, I found the older rods were a better fit, still snug though. you should probably replace the washers you have, the teardrop washers, that will make it fit good.

I would be careful rigging something up, you break that plastic mount and the coil is history. dont forget these are older coils, the plastic is probably not as subtle as a newer one and might break easier.

Duraliner or the similiar product, the stuff they coat pickup beds with, is super for the bottom of coils. And you will never have to remove the cover again to clean it out:cheers:

On the older coils it is nice to get a plastic spacer to tighten your wing nut against rather then pulling it up against the mount itself.......Minelab used to supply these but they can be gotten at Lowes etc along with everything else, bolts rubber spacers etc.......Geo

Hit "my spot" near my house last night. I couldn't resist trying out the new Coinsearch coil (and 440 meter) and jury-rigged as best I could for the time being (using tracers from a star trek gun). I'd cracked the plastic test tightening it earlier so I presume it'll be epoxy time soon. (Couldn't believe how fragilely that part was designed.)

Wow, is this thing quiet compared to my BBS 800! I didn't have near the falsing issues I'm used to and even began to understand some of the things I've read about earlier but never seemed to happen much for me, even after a years' very heavy usage. For instance, right off the bat I started hitting deep wheats that were ringing in as low, or lower, as nickels. Minus a little junk--and one cool doohickey I forgot to put in the pic--I ended up with this.

Five wheats from 1920, a '41 Merc and Jefferson, some memorials, and a key.

Much nicer, at least on first try, than the BBS 800! And I like that 440 meter too!

Looks like a good hunting spot you have there.

I also picked up an 8" Coinsearch coil that's on it's way after reading so many positive posts about it, I can't wait to try it out.

I have the 10" BBS coil on there now, but will be testing out the Sunray S-12 12.5" DD coil tomorrow at both a small beach area and at a park from the 1860's that's still in use....I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some keepers, as the town I live in is loaded with clad, but so far no oldies.
