Mount Royal Victoria Hospital and Park ,Montreal

:canadaflag:One trip I will never forget was one were I was invited up to hunt and to help out Richard and Heather with their booth at the Bon Adventure business show one long weekend .
It all started the Wednesday before my planned trip for Friday to go up and help out , and later hunt Mount Royal park . My right eye felt like someone had poured sand in it and then ground it in . after work that day I when to have it checked out at the local HMO health office.
A GP there looked at it and through no fault of his said it was com mom pink eye and gave me drop , it was also said it would not be a problem with my planned trip . So Friday comes and my eye is better but not great , I was not given an exact day of total healing so off I go from work heading for the great north at best possible speed . I had gotten the trip down to under 5 hour that is with the 20-45 minute delay at the Canadian side of the boarder , I have a face they must not want in that back then the delay was most often getting back in to the US as to getting out , not me ,,,, I would sit through question after question , or just slow approval , my vehicle was never looked through coming or going from back the US my longest delay back in was 15 minutes waiting for the cars in front of me to clear then it was a standard 3 question , Were you going? , How long did I stay? and have anything to declare ?.....then it was move alone ...
I had just gotten on to RT 89 not far after the White River Junction I crested a hill and got the full rays of the setting sun in my face , it was like a hot nail being driven in to my eye , I almost lost it then and there , but young and dumb I drove on to the boarder and then to Montreal with my eye shut and tearing . Later after I had put more drops in at Richards I was able to get some relief. The next day my eye was not any better and was getting worst , to the point that Heather took me to the underground shops to find something fro my eye at the pharmacy . While we were there a man asked to look at my eye and after studying it he said he was a optermologist from VT there for vacation and that I better get to the hospital A.S.A.P. that what I had was not com mom pink eye but something much more serious .:surprised:
It did not take long to get to the Mount Royal Victoria Hospital were I have never seen a hospital staff move as quickly once the eye specialist had a look at my eye . Treatment was just as quickly given and it was asked of me if a couple of classes of students could have a look at my condition , I agreed and soon 2 or 3 groups can and all looked at my eyes , both the normal one and the inflamed right eye. After they had a look , the instructors would give a short talk in Doctor language and then thank me for letting the class have a look .
The Specialist came back and after making sure the treatment was going correctly I was released with medication and to have it followed up once I was home , want I have is Iritist it is were the pupil drys out and sticks to the lens and without treatment it can damage the eye and vision by staying stuck or by tearing the pupil or lens if and when it breaks free if it does not break free then the eye sight is reduced and limited by light conditions . It is not easy to diagnose and there is a long list of conditions that may cause this to happen but once it is known then early treatment can be started and the condition is controlled and possible damage greatly reduced because of it ...
Once the show was over, and one of the most memorable parts was the Girl from Super-Coat, an all purpose cleaner / polish , she could have sold me anything and I would have bought it . We got things packed up and back at the shop Richard and I spent the short time I had left hunting Mount Royal Park. This large park has been used by armies as a camp ground and a training area right up through to WWII from as far back as the early 1700's . If you have the time and the park rules have not changed hunting here is well worth the effort. You are likely to find just about anything from early relics from the settling of the city of Montreal to WWII blank .303 cartridges from the training that took place there to much older relics from other wars and battles back to the beginnings of Montreal itself. Coin hunting is or was very good unless it is during the sunny summer days were the views may make hunting much hard to do ...:yikes:

Any good finds at that park ?? Hey....it's not like you didn't have another eye to fall back on anyways.

A lot of large pennies , a fair range of date of silver coins , We hunted the western top and eastern middle and lower edges , their is one area that was the domain of the dog owners and if you could stand the deep do it was thick with early to mid- 1800's coins but we did not hunt it just to much easier hunting on the mount ...Richard had a fair collection of "fish scale" coins .. if I remember correctly they are a small silver 5 cent piece ...lots of .303 blanks from WWII also ...
A very large park and wish I could hunt it some more but I do not see me crossing the boarder these days any time soon ...

were lucky the eye doc was there, and made you go have it looked at again. I thought you were going to say you had something like a corneal abrasion, and those are bad enough. But to have something like you had is very dangerous! You usually have to keep your eyes to the ground for a while, in order for it to heal! Glad the medicine helped!

Where do you live Bill? :)

I am about 30 miles south east Of Boston , live in the city but have a small 20 acre farm. What is left of my Grandma's dairy farm , Mom and I lease most of it out to a real local farmer and I work about 3 acres growing 100-250 lb pumpkins for whole sale ,plus other odds and ends keeps me out of trouble when not at the night job ...lol

I bet you have some great jack-o-lanterns around October, huh? Sounds like your grandmother left you quite a nice farm! That's great! Wasn't trying to be nosy or anything, but I didn't think I had ever heard where you were from. Then when you started talking about crossing the boarder, I just thought I would ask. Thanks! Glad you decided to join the forum! :)

I will try this link again ...

are very impressive! I think you did good for a first timer! Sorry they didn't make it to the contest, but hopefully you learned a few things just by trying, and can use it to your advantage next time! Good luck and thanks for sharing this with us! :)
