Well, the new Excal is beginning to pay for itself. I had one short 15-minute dive last week and today I spent over four hours at the bottom of Lake Ouachita. Here are the goods, if I can remember how to post a photo or three. By the way; the Excal II is a righteous machine and is beginning to pay for itself, as you can see.

The cross was found last week-end; 14 k. The stones in the ring are small but very much real w14k. The lion ring was found today; 18gm hunk of pure sterling. The 10k band weighed a whopping 11.5 gr. It was the lone item found with the ACE250. The final photo is of today's finds, minus the 10k band and the 14k cross. The ring in the upper right is a junker.

It was a rainy day. Perfect for treasure hunting, don't you think? <><

congrats thats some great stuff

SWEET!!!! HH regards Nugget.

Nobody to get in you way on the beach and even the lifeguards and grounds staff won't come out in the rain to bother you. As a surf pirate you're already wet so who cares if it's raining, lightning is always a concern though. Nothing like wandering around in the surf carrying a lightning rod/ detector in your hand.
Very Nice Finds John, the Excal is paying for itself very quickly and soon the hookah will be paid off as well.

Kewl Mate,

BDA:cool:

How long have you had your Excal, and how long did it take you to get the hang of it? Mine just came in, the battery is charged, and I am ready for its maiden voyage... out in the back yard.... Great finds!!! HH Joe

I bought it in April and only began using it last week-end. So I have MUCH to learn.

I like it though. It is quiet because I run in on disc 1, silent threshold, sensitivity 11 and volume maxed out.

I expect it will take me several months to get into it fully. But I would not ay other machine for the water.

Bout time you posted some loot!!! Mine must have gone your way because the last 2 weekends I haven't seen GOLD!!!! Very nice on the ring finds. And yes the beach durring a storm is perfect as long as your completely underwater!!!

Go get em!!!!

Very nice booty!!!!!

...after a couple of hours in the shadows, it's sure nice when the sun DOES come out and gives you a bunch more vis!

I am not blessed with the massive vis you have down there. On this hunt it varied from zero to 8 feet, depending upon how much I was stiring up the bottom.

Thanks for posting.

...I'm having a time getting used to the low-pressure regulator. You know how w/SCUBA when you demand air it just about jettisons your lungs full? Well, I have to fight for it more and it takes me about 10 minutes to get settled into the trip.

I hear that it is inherent with hookah. So, is your hookah the same? This puppy will support four divers so the output is not the issue. It is the same whether I've got two divers on it or just one. The overpressure valve bleeds every five or ten seconds.

Once I get settled in, I don't feel that I'm starving for air, even when I'm working on a crater.

I think it just takes some getting used to. What do you think? PM if you like.

Thanks

Arkie,

Who needs vis??? All you need is practice and to know how far your coil is away from your hand!! Really. If you have a small mesh bag or have a dive shop around there buy one. Scoop up the muck or sand in your hand, wave it in front of the coil. If the target is in there, put the handful of muck in the bag, hold the top shut and swish it around in the water. Open the bag, take out your target and put it in your goodie bag or pouch. Don't bother trying to see what you have until your out of the water and not wasting your air. Stay in the same area and keep hunting!!!

I dive in "0" vis lakes that way and I have pulled out a lot of great targets. Go slow and be careful of your suroundings. You will have a GREAT time. I pulled over 50.00 in change out of a small pond at a campground without being able to see a thing. I could care less. Good luck and get some more treasures!!

...and I REALLY like your idea about the mesh bag. Practice is what I need. I was certified in 1982 but have not been too active in the last ten years, except to find a tackle box or three that I have lost over the side.

It gets easier and I'm even getting used to the perks of the low-pressure hookah regulator.

I still hate black water, but will not shy away from it. Thanks for the input!!!
