Most hunter's in the real world would narrow it down to three metal detectors as a bare minimum. So your top three pick. With the economy this could be

My picks for the only three units in my arsenal.Explorer,Sovereign and you always need a water or rain detector an Excalibur.

I have what I would choose. Why is that so logical?

E-Trac with X-1 probe and custom arm cuff

Ace 250..stock all the way.Garrett Pinpointer

Excalibur - Behind the back mounting underway. Homemade aluminum scoop and Stainless Diamond Scoop

I guess three Explorers?

I tried a Sov GT for a backup, but it's way too different than my Explorer. Always wanted to try a CZ-3D, but for now, I'll stick to Explorers for my type of hunting.

I'd choose:
My Explorer II -- All round machine
Excalibur -- Water machine
and XP GoldMaxx Power -- Relic machine

Good Hunting!

for picking through the iron at older sites.. ID Edge or T2

Max depth on high conductors for a wide variety of soil conditions... ML Advantage with large coils

Shallow fresh water wading for gold jewelry... mod'ed Fisher 1270 for the deep/small stuff and the 1236X2 for hunting the shallows with heavy iron (the ID Edge does great at this also)

Very good all around unit... X70 with various coils.

I will pick my X-Terra 70 1st. I know it, and like it. It produces for me.

2nd I would like to try an E-Trac or an Explorer

3rd A water machine/ Not real sure on which one though. I kinda like the BHID, Beale.

Tesoro Bandito 1 old brown box unit= hvy iron trash. BHID for water, XLT for coin sniping/ but i have Sov XS2 for now. But if I only could have 1 Tesoro Stingray 2!!

My SE is my main machine. The cz70pro goes to China with the 12" Sunray coil on...and you can hunt with it in a light rain. The xlpro is a rock steady, dead on ID analog machine...that is simple and goes plenty deep too. I used an xlt for years...and it is a turn on and go 7" deep silver dime machine. I sold it a few years back and bought one of the last production xlpro's because they were going to stop making them. I figured I could pick up an xlt any time...so I jumped on the xlpro.

Grumpyolman.good stratagy to have a metal detector for deep coins a light clad hunter like the Ace and a great water unit.

Weasel, the Sovereign once learned will give the user a lot of information. The CZ3D is great in an area without nail, which can be worked around usually four way hits on the target.

Dan,those Troy X5s sure hold their resale value,I had a couple of X2s the X5 is still on my want list.

Howdy Y'all
If I had to trim my detectors down to three: I would keep my new to me Explorer ll, as I am just getting to know it. I am also quite pleased with my Tiger Shark for underwater detecting. And last but not least I would keep my original Bandido for the nail infested old places I like to hunt. But if it came to down to only one :( it would have to be my Tiger Shark because it would handle all the things the others can do.

Hombre,I used my Explorer ll for the last part of this season and its just amazing how many good silver coins were left in that worked out park.I have never had more consisitance finds with other metal detectors.

Howdy Ron

Yea, I really like my EX ll ! I just got it a month ago and now it's winter again in southcentral Ks. We are fortunate to have huntable weather throughout the winter, not every day but it gets into the 40's and 50's sometimes. It got up to the mid 30's here today and I got to playing around with settings on the EX ll out in my old coin garden. I tried the settings of Charles Upstate NY and I like them, now I need to take it and those settings into the real world next time. .......Hombre
