Pete,I have found a couple of 10 inch mortar balls,1 has a d stamp the other has a star stamped near the fuse,What do you think?

Well, as you probably know, there's seemingly-unending debate about what the letter-markings on CS artillery projectiles mean. My own theory about them is based on three decades of examining Field-Recovered evidence. That evidence is too lengthy a topic to try to type it all out here. Anyway, in my opinion, the single-letter-markings are a Projectile Inspector's approval-mark ...and apparently the "D" represents the Atlanta Arsenal and the 5-point star represents Charleston or some other SC Arsenal, possibly Columbia.
