Bia say's,

"There's truely nothing out there or is the beach so sanded in we'd never find it? I don't know? We're not even finding trash!"

I don't have an answer or even a clue why I can walk for an hour without a single tone. Most of the broken shells are on the crest or dry sand area. Some really small fragments are in the mine. Maybe a storm came in and turned the beach upside down.

Whatever the case, we cannot find a surf god.

Next time we're headed south to see our good friends at VA Beach!

It is fun regardless!

Check out the huge difference in just 100 blocks of beach!!

:sad:All I've got this week is pennies and we had high seas to stir things up too. The sand has swept in over the past week and covered all the good targets. Time to try the lee shore and see if it's better there. Let's hope the surf god smiles on all of us again.
Really nice pics as always, I like the way you always seems to capture the interesting parts of your hunt.

Hi Steve and Bia,
Thanks for posting those great pictures. I will be vacationing at Ocean City for 10 days this August. I will be staying on 16th Street. It was cool recognizing some of the buildings in the background. If you have any pointers, tips, techniques or suggestions that may help me in my detecting, I am all ears. Good luck in your hunting.

If you're staying at 16th street, don't plan on hunting the sand around that area. A real good rule of thumb for ocean city is wherever the boardwalk is- do not hunt the beach! That's about 40 blocks if you didn't know. The reason is the sand rakes are out in full force throughout the 40 block distance and they keep the dry sand clean as a whistle. The other reason is it's horribly sanded in on the slope. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!

Here's what you need to do...

From 99th street to 119th the beach is exclusively accessed by the hotels/homes on that 20 block stretch. It's almost like a private beach. As you can see from my pictures, most people are in this area! Drive north to 119th street and make a right. Park anywhere on the left side if you can. This is the best place for beach access. Plus, it is free parking! Once you hit the beach look to your right. You'll see high rise hotels that start around $300 per night as well as many ritzy condominiums. The Clarion will be smack in the middle of all of it. This 20 block stretch is the wealthiest part of Ocean City and the beach is natural. No sand rakes either! You could spend all day working it!

If you can get your detector wet then go do "zig-zag" patterns on the top of the exposed sand bar and the lower half of the slope. Last year I found all of my bling bling here.

try this .plastic tie two gold rings, man and womens,to shaft of detector ,out of detector range.use as witness as in dowsing.see if this helps. cowbell oh.

I appreciate you taking the time to give me those pointers and especially the pictures. I have the opportunity to spend a week with my fiance's family this July and they will be staying on 99th Street. I am still undecided as to whether I am going or not. Your info may be the 'push' I need to go with them. Thanks again and good luck.

I will try the ring mojo. Thanks!

By the way,I don't know about all detectors but metal in the range of the coil doesn't seem to phase the performance at all. Provided it's secure and immobile. In an emergency, I used a steel bolt for the coil on my XLT and it ignored it completely. Last year when I was testing a theory for someone, I taped a stainless shaft bolt to the center of the my Excalibur coil and it still worked fine. I could not tell a difference at all.

That 20 block area around 100th street certainly does get graded every night when the summer rent prices change.
