I went out this morning for a few hours to do some detecting at a local soccer field. I took Hombre's advice and hunted in the all metal mode.

Come to find out, the Silver makes a great relic detector when it's used in the all metal mode.

I was hunting in an area that had very little trash, so using the all metal mode wasn't a big deal.

The ring is modern and gold plated. RATS! It felt good for a minute anyway.

The 'all metal mode' isn't threshold based.

I really like that because it has the same tone and response as the discrimination mode does, except it goes deeper into the iron range.

A rusty nail will crackle and pop In the discrimination mode at its lowest setting, but will come in load and clear in the all metal mode.

You got that right. I was finding some really tiny targets like cloths snaps at around 5 inches.

As much as I like my Compadre, the Silver is by far the better detector overall.
