Morning Hunt---Clad and Silver

Sven

Well-known member
More practice with the Nokta Impact at another school yard, bright and early this morning. Had the search coil to the ground at 6:10am.
I like it when you start off finding a Toonie.........and a loonie. The Impact gives off such a nice tone with a corresponding target ID number, you know you hooked onto one of these coins.

So I scooped up about $28.00 or so in change, one Toonie missing the center portion. A silver dime, sterling cross, 2 sterling rings and a bunch of other odds and ends.

I have settled on DI3 (3 tone) mode for clad hunting, again using the 5x9 coil at 14khz. Tried some of the other modes but, kept coming back to DI3.

With any luck it won't rain Sunday morn, will get out again.

Nice haul Sven, that is a lot of good targets. Are you digging much trash?

Randy

Actually that's a good question. Usually I dig tons of trash. With the Impact I dig about 50% less compared to other detectors. Already keyed in on the trash ID numbers that are consistent up here. So far if I dig those particular numbers in school yards, its always trash. DI3 mode for me works good in trash, the good items signal thru it, many times you can coax a high tone and number out of some bouncy targets, then you dig it.

Just got back from todays hunt at the schoolyard I went yesterday, the others areas of it were not as good. After about 2 hours I left for another High School. Hunted there for a few hours. The bugs were out today, making pests about themselves. Made out OK for both schools, estimated count around $10-11.00.

Sven----You have been running in three tone 14khz.----How is the battery life doing on the Impact running it like that?

Think about 10 hours. I did not notice any low battery alert. Might be a problem for some. When the battery level drops to 2 bars, keep an ear out for the suddenly audio to go silent.
I started keeping 3 sets of spare batteries in the car when going out. Thought about switching to 20khz today when I was at 3 bars to extend battery life. But, I use my pinpointer and when using 20khz, the detector starts chirping away.
So I stayed at 14khz, I can have the detector coil within 12" of the pinpointer with only an occasional chirp.
