I went for a hike yesterday at one of my favorite detecting spots and discovered that for the first time in 10 years, someone had cut down all the trees and tall grass that made one section impossible to detect. Of course the first thing I did this morning was grab my T2 and head straight for it. Much to my disappointment, the stubble left behind made it nearly impossible to detect, even in Boost mode. So I headed back to the car. On the way back I dug a 1902 IH and my first intact skeleton key. I was satisfied, but my detecting partner struck out.
On our way back we passed a farm with the farmers standing at the edge of a half plowed field, so we asked if we could swing for a while behind the plows and they gave us the green light. Unfortunately my detecting partner, who is 10 years my junior, quickly got negative and ran out of steam. On the way back to his car (he was already in it with the engine running) I got a nice deep coin signal and dug the King George II copper.
In the future I plan to meet my detecting partners on site so I don't get cut short. They are planting hay today and now we will need to wait until spring!
