someone gave me a cutting and then this flower showed up........very unusual "pattern" check out the spots in it.

notice the shape of the flower BEFORE it opens up (first picture- bottom center of picture)
 
does it stay opened once it opens? Is this native to the United States? I have never seen one like this before, thanks for sharing! Kelley (Texas) :)
 
This flower like many cactus stays open a few days.....less than a week than its gone....no it does not close each night....however, im gonna verify that tonight
I may have mentioned this in the past, i have a BIG cactus that bloom ONLY ONE NIGHT (all night) by 9am its faded and gone.

before the flower bloom, the POINTED end "leaves" are folded in half and the tip is at the center of the flower. As it prepare the bloom , the flower takes a roundish shape ....until it gently opens....think "popcorn" ...definitely different.
