Well I have been doing some research. I found some old county maps from the 1820's 1864' and 1871 of the county I live in and some from the surrounding counties. Saturday we took a trip to a old church site from the 1730's era. I only found one coin but it was a 1841 large cent. This afternoon I went back to the place I found the 1781 Spanish reale, looked about a hour. Had the sensitivity on 26 and auto, gain up a couple of numbers, got a small signal, high pitch, right hand top corner, meter was at the very bottom of depth, the pinpoint I could just barely hear, but it was there. I dug and checked, still in the hole, dug some more, still in the hole, down about 9 inches in the Virginia red dirt popped out a 1797 Spanish reale, two found since I got this Explorer 2, about 3 weeks ago, only been out with this thing 5 or 6 times. I like to have fell dead. Never found anything like this when I had my XLT. Back to the maps for me.

Very nice indeed. Wish we could find stuff like that out here in Washington state. About all we find are Indian heads and Barber coinsas far as old coins go. I sent you that old coin program you asked for. It's under club hunt reply. HH.

Great finds! Love that spanish silver. It feels so good to break into the 1700s.

Reale and my first gold coin. Been detecting over twenty years and those two are the most elusive for me for some reason. But given time I may be blessed with one or the other.
