More on the sef 12x15 on my gt

My first impressions were mixed but I'm liking it more and more. Tried it on some less mineralized beaches and it really worked nicely. It seemed to me that the sensitivity setting is more critical with the sef than with the 10 inch tornado. I did find that lower settings like 4:30 to even lower produced the best signals on undug targets at a lot of beaches, while other beaches liked around 2:30. Again, I had to pay more attention to the sensitivity settings and feel as if it is much less "forgiving" than the tornado as far as sensitivity settings go. Also I quickly learned that a very, very small amount of sand under the coil cover on the 12x15 will ruin it's performance! ( I'll paint it some day). I also tried it at the fire rings on a bay beach where I was able to pick out clad coins (and pull tabs) from all the nails and melted aluminum as well or better than the tornado (in my opinion). And of course there's the coverage. Going back to the 10 inch would be down right painful on some of the bigger beaches here.
Just some thoughts from a new guy learning how to find gold and silver on the beach.

I got one this week and in my ground it's a beast on depth. Don't have a beach to hunt. But I'm seeing the same thing. Lower sensitivity actually gives it more depth in most cases. And I some cases even auto is better. I'm happy with it and I use a swingy thing to hoist it. Without it my hunt times would be reduced. I'm looking forward to some deep relics. I just got to get it over some. Pinpointing has been a pain but I'm sure I will get better. Be sure a pass on anything you learn about it. I will be lurking.

What I've been saying all along. Highest sensitivity setting, while stabile, doesn't always equal best depth or target response in my soil with any coil, although it seems the 12x10 more often wants to run with sens. maxed compared to the 15x12. Even the stock coil or S5 sometimes want a lower setting even though higher is still stabile in my soil. Often 2PM seems to be the magic #.
