More on MXT vs Terra 70,s

Found a specimen with the MXT on some ground I had thrashed with the Terra. I was using the 5.3 eclipse on the MXT. I thought I would check it out and see if the reason I had not got it with the 70 was simply because I didn't walk over it, though it was right where I had been finding gold with it and reckon I would have had to. It doesn't even register on the 70 and its gold coils, no response. Its got tiny bits of gold in it running right next to some mineralisation. I broke up the specie in case it was just getting the minerals but pieces of it with the minerals alone dont even cause the slightest whimper on the MXT, only the bits with gold.
Ok, the 5.3 is a concentric coil and the 70's are high freq DDs, but put a concentric coil on the 70 in the same ground and the machine is unusable. The MXT cruised with the 5.3 with a Gain of 10 and SAT of 7. A few odd threshold rolls but no great probs. Nice. Ill post some pics up here within a week or two when I get around to taking some pics with my Dinosaur SLR.

You have all convinced me!
LOL

My dad has very bad eyesight so I thought the MXT would be better for him than the X-Terra 70, because of the MXT's Analog dials are much easier to see for him than the X-Terra 70's touch pad.

Although the X-Terra 70 is much lighter and more compact as well for both using it and travelling with.

Get the new MXT-300 if you get one before June 15th to get the free pinpointer and case from Whites.

Get the package and price reduction on the XT-70 before June 30th with free coil and case as well if it is your choice.

Both units are about the same otherwise I think. One thing I would like to know from someone is, the XT-70 has 28 segments in steps of 2 and the MXT has about -98 to +98 segments. Does the MXT have more discrimination "I D" notches-segments than the XT-70 to be more surgical or not in reality?? (This would be the deciding factor on which one to purchase for me.)

I to am convinced!!!! Another question. There is a special , 2 specials(?) going on. 1 is for the MXT with the 950 coil. The other is for the MXT- 300 with the newer 12 coil. I intend to get a 6X10 DD at a point in time, but for now, the new question is about the 12'" ($80 + $ over the 9.5" if bought in the configuration) as compared to the 9.5" coil which is standard fair. Any feelings on this newer coil as opposed to the 9.5. Again , thanks.

I bought a lightly used MXT last summer that came with the 4X6, 5.3 and 9.5 coils. My first outing was to a very trashy park, so much so that I found the 9.5 unusable. I switched to the 4X6 and the difference was like night and day. I was able to slip thru the trash and pick up a number of goodies. I later added the 6X10 and found that it handles trash a fair bit better than the 9.5, with good coverage, but the smaller coils still are the best in really heavy trash. That said, at this point, the 6X10 is my most used coil. My point is that if you hunt trashy areas, in my opinion you well be better served with the coils smaller than the 12". If you typically hunt open, fairly clean areas then the 9.5 and the 12" should serve quite well. In my opinion the MXT is an extremely versatile detector whose usefulness is greatly enhanced by the variety of coils available for it. ONE OTHER THOUGHT THAT MAY MAKE A DIFFERENCE - You most likely won't be able to add the 12" for $80 later so that may be the way to go with the thought of adding other coils as soon as practical for you. If you eventually have the 6X10, the 12" and one of the smaller ones in your arsenal, I'm betting you'll never need or miss the 9.5. My two bits.
Good luck and happy hunting,
BB
