took off work today and went back to the swimming area at a drained down lake... 1st target of the day was one of the gold studs..i wasnt really expecting to find much but recent rainfall has move some sand and targets although small were plenty...the 2 little studs with ? mark look like gold but aren't marked...not pictured are the countless hoop earings and bobby pins that I trashed... all and all it was a nice to not be at work..[attachment 301654 phpVEqSEPPM.jpg][attachment 301656 phpbDAKalPM.jpg]

Dag brother you are doing great.... that little stuff melts and adds up... Keep on Hammering..!!

I sure hope you also found some larger targets. I know everyone shown, but for one would have driven me mad, as they would slip through my scoop. I miss the drained lakes I used to hunt - with a small screen scoop. You have to have patience to find these little jewels. Precision hunting for sure.
I found one earring similar to your 14K. Too nice to scrap out so I had my jeweler remove the post and put a necklace look at one of the corners. Now my wife wears it as a really nice pendant.

Dang man! Looks like you found the place where old earrings go to die!
I'd sure have to hone my skills before I could do that, lol. Good job!

Thanks for comments, it is a meticulous style of hunting to retrieve this small stuff...some day i might even invest in a pinpointer....ha ha ha... as monotonous as it is this place is spitting out gold at a ratio of 25 or 30 to 1 and i dont know anywhere else that will give me that good of odds....most of the gold targets didnt even give an id had to dig strictly by sound...the crazy thing is the last 2 times i went here i found at least 1 gold item right on top of the sand...yesterday i found that ugly spiral earring right on top in plain sight....

Thats some insanely small stuff there Booty!.:surprised:..I think you got this 'micro gold' hunting thing down...I know theres a following here of users that always ask about micro gold hunting...I hope you are ready for a lot of questions about your gear and what else you use... Happy to hear you find this stuff without a pinpointer! Leads me to believe you really have some sort of focused type gear for the retrieval? Or at least developed some sort of sub-set of skills within this sport? I dont think I've ever seen a plate shot like that here ever...lots of small targets, and a lot of gold...:please:

Kossie ,presently im using my old whites 5900 with the 9.5in coil...i have found many of the same types of targets at the same place with my excal but once the excal stops singing i try a different machine... mud, as far as target retrieval most of these targets are very shallow , i just use the divide and conquer method.. i only scoop a1/2inch of sand per scoop until targets is out then i dump the contents into 3 small piles, swing over the piles then take the sand of the pile with target still in it , place it in my hand contantly dividing in half again until target is found..usually takes less the 1 minute .....

Maybe it is time for me to dust off my 5900! It has been a long time since I had it out, I know it will need new batteries. ATPro was so sensitive to the small stuff I stopped using it this summer and went the to Excalibur with a WOT coil. A big coil for shallow fresh drops gets me onto the next beach sooner. I will use the ATPro starting in a few days. Also the ATX will be seeing more action in the water. It is all about the location and environment that I select which detector to use. I almost forgot about the 5900, it will be fun to reminisce finds from years ago that I dug with the 5900 while hunting with it again...thanks for tripping my memory.
