I'd been having sensitivity problems with my EX II (See my post below). Machine went into a hypersensitivity mode after stopping to dig targets. Well, yesterday I looked down at the screen and it was all garbled - Everything still legible, but out of place - like one of the on/off icons near the top of the screen, instead of at the bottom. I realized this was the second time this month that this had happened, so I decided to completely reset the machine by holding down the on/off switch - and wiping out my settings. When I booted up again, my sensitivity problem was solved. The machine was smooth and stable for the rest of the day. The only problem is that all the tones sound like they're coming out of a bottle -- really hollow sounding -- and all the pitches, threshold and target ID have shifted. Can't get them back to my "normal" with any adjustments. Meanwhile, after having a horrible day fighting the noise, the first target I dug after the "fix" was a 1723 Hibernia Halfpenny.

Anyone know what's going on? Is my board about to be fried?

Any Help appreciated.

P.S. Apparently not a problem with the X1 probe, as suggested earlier. --Dan

Dan, not that I know ANYTHING about the silly minelabs, but what I would do is change out for fresh batteries first and clean the end of the battery pack contacts with a pencil eraser. Look down inside the battery compartment with a flashlight at the battery contacts of the machine to see if anything looks odd, if it does, you need to find a way to safely/gently clean those, then put it back together and try it out. If it still acts weird I would be calling Minelab directly for analysis and possibly sending it in for service. The only good thing is that the weather is changing to cold so you won't miss it as much with she's getting a tune-up. Hope this helps....

Hi Dan,

look at this thread

http://www.findmall.com/read.php?19,289536,289536#msg-289536

and see if yours is a similar.

I think you might need to send the detector to Minelab.

Thanks, Dave.

I did call Minelab, and they have seen the problem before. It was recommended that I send it in. I'm betting the hyper-sensitivity problem is related, since both were corrected by the reboot.
The thread was very useful. I appreciate it.
Best.
