More about the Harbor Frieght Pinpointer

Want to pass some info along to you.
Someone, I don't remember who, suggested I replace the battery that comes with the
pinpointer with a new one like Duracell OR Energizer because the battery that comes with the pinpointer
is a cheapo. This was good advise.

If you bought this pinpointer get a GOOD battery like the Duracell or Energizer. Don't put in any of the cheap Raovac
or junk batteries you get at the Dollar store.

I have a small hand held stun gun I take with me if I have any problems with strays on the trail. I put a
cheap battery in and it wouldn't respond. I put a Duracell in it and it sent shock waves thought the house. (Just kidding) The
point is the cheap 9 volts you get are good for only some electrical devices and not others. They just don't have the power.

I put a duracell in the pinpointer and could see the difference in air test immediately. Not a GREAT difference considering how small the coil is anyway but enough to get better use from the pinpointer.

Happy Hunting.

I agree, I found it rather funny that the Chinese battery that comes with it has the brand name of Megaton, I replaced mine as soon as I got it, the Megaton battery is on the shelf as a funny item to show visitors, just hope it doesn't go off...

Hi Rob,
We've used them rayovacs in our aces and we thought they were great batteries, we don't rate duracells at all.
Strange we like the American batteries and you like the British ones, maybe both companies boost the ones for export.

If you are using cheap batteries in something you think something of or something you have a lot of money in like a detecttor. Please be wary that the cheapos are a whole lot more likely to leak acid than a quality battery will. I had this happen in flashlights after a couple weeks setting idle.

Does anyone have the stock number of that Harbor Freight pinpointer? I checked with three stores and none of them had any information about one.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Ged Dirty,,,,,,,,,Dirty Don

You have to get them ONLINE. The stores don't carry them. Just go to their website and type in Metal detectors. You'll see it. Takes forever for them to mail the little sucker though.

There are two kinds of Raovacks. The .99 cent cheapos and the better quality Raovacks
I bet the better quality ones are the ones you have been useing. The .99 cent batteries are
lesser quality and don't last very long with prolonged use.

Here at our GI Joe Stores one can buy 24 alkalines for $6.99. I keep a box for spares should my rechargeables peter out in the field.

Yes, the shipping charges DO suck and it takes 10 to 14 working days to get the dang thing from THEIR store to YOU.

But its a decent little cheapo pinmpointer for $15.00. I put brand new Duracell 9volt battery in and get better sensitivity. The .94 cent Rayovac
batteries are not going to do it for you.
