Hope to get better and should once I know my camera better. I want to do better close ups. any suggestions?

What did you have to do to focus on it like that? Whenever I have tried those shots, I just end up with a blurry dot.

The only thing I did was set it on pinpoint and let it focus but I did use a tripod.
