Monte's Nail Board Performance Test

I have more testing to do but here's how it came out with what I've done so far. For the test I am using the very same Classic 3SL with the Mr.Bill mods that I bought from Monte about 15 years ago and it is fitted with the very same 5.5 inch Ferret coil that came with the detector.I will make it as short as possible.I used a different combination of coins including a US nickel-Dime-and penny.I got good clean hits in all directions with all the coins and raising the coil several inches higher and still got good clean strong signals in all directions including walking around 360 degrees to get all the in between directions.I started off with min disc and gradually increased the disc and still got good signals. There were some very slight clicks if I moved the coil too far away from the coins.I did one coin at a time and then 2 coins at a time and the C3SL passed with flying colors on all the test. The clicks were so minor you could hardly hear them.No matter what setting or coil height I used or how fast or slow or any direction I used the C3SL had no problem at all.You wouldn't of passed up any signal if heard in the field.I am not surprised by the results because I have been using this detector with the same coil ever since I bought it from Monte 15 years ago and I know this detector like the back of my hand.I already knew how this detector performs in iron and very trashy places. Some places I hunt are so trashy there are still several targets under the coil even using the 5.5 inch Ferret. But that coil can still pick out the goodies in between nails or other smaller ferrous trash. It' not perfect but it' close enough for Me! A good target in the middle of nails and other small iron trash will come through with no problem with this setup! This little coil combined with the Classic 3SL modified including the SAT modification is going to be hard to beat in trash. This still is my favorite detector and will equal or better some higher end detectors out there in or out of trash. For this detector the Mr.Bill mods and the Very hard to find 5.5 Ferret coil ARE the bells and whistles.I have metered machines but I really don't look at the meter anyway.I have used this detector for so long and know it very well and as long as it keeps on tickin,it won't take a lickin!!! No wasted or gimmick controls on this machine was ever needed to sell it.IT WORKS PERIOD!!! I almost forgot.I read somewhere where someone asked it they could still use the blacksand position even if the ground wasn't too mineralized and still get a little more depth.I don't remember what his answer was but on MINE I can still use the black sand switch with disc on min and even in low mineral ground and get almost 3 inches more depth.Monte is right..It should have been labeled Expanded or Enhanced disc.It is a Great feature to have!
